I'm personally very burned out on the price complaints. This reminds me of the time I used to be in the electronic service industry when people bought 1000 dollar VCRs and complained about a $100 repair bill. Let's face it, everyone is in business to make money and pay their bills. Who cares if it costs unichip $10 dollars to put together the tuner - that doesn't include the tons of research in man-hours that has to be recouped.
Maybe you guys should wait until some dirtbag chinese outfit copies the tuner, ripping off the design and selling it for $200. They'll make sure you get terribly underrated components and flimsy PCBs, so you can rest assure your truck will die in the middle of nowheres. That's what's wrong with the world - we got too much used to the walmart mentality with everything. The oversees market has destroyed the well made/engineered electronics and computer market. There's no respect for any patents anymore either.
Basically it's easily summed up as the following: If you want to play you gotta pay. $600 dollars is very reasonable for a piggy back tuner. Everyone please stop complaining about this. Be glad someone finally offers a tuner at all for our hard to modify Tundra.

Contrast that with a air conditioner start-up capacitor. I had to pay almost $175 for that, even though as an electrical engineer, I know that this part should sell for less than $10.

I'd still rather wait. I'm hearing some negative comments from owners that went to the S/C already.
What in the world does the supercharger have to do with this tuner?
It means that sometimes jumping on the bandwagon because a few people say something is going to be great (even though there is NO PROOF) may not be the smartest thing to do....

I want one. But why in the heck cant Uni-Chip post some numbers???? They have it. I am sure they have tested it. What gives? Whats the big deal? And why cant the group buy wait untill these claims are made?

They have numbers in house. They aren't ready to release "official" numbers to the public yet, but they will very soon. They have numbers on their website for a stock vehicle, 20hp & 26 tq. They are testing cai and exhaust combos and tuning for max gain that would be repeatable by us. Regarding the group buy waiting for numbers, you may get your wish. Mike has told me that he really wants to see this group buy go through and he is willing to extend it beyond tomorrow. For how long, I don't know. I personally would really like to wrap it up, lol, but I'm confident in what they are doing and I know that the numbers will be impressive. The reason for closing the group buy ASAP is so that those who have already paid can get theirs without waiting longer than necessary. Those who are still on the fence, you have a little more time.

20hp/26tq.............not that impressive. At least not compared to the other numbers that have been talked about.

Actually its not that bad.How many people purchased a catback exhaust system on here for $600+ and actually got 20hp or 26tq?
Like someone stated in an earlier post.you have to pay to play.
You cant just buy a chip/tuner and expect it to give you miracle gains in the 40-50hp range. You have to buy a combination of things like chip/tuner,exhaust,intake for example. They will all add up in the end,but nit saying it will be cheap to do so.

well said. who was it recently that said we've turned into a country of whiners...
I was not personally complaining about the price as I don't have very many points of reference, nor do I really care one way or another. I certainly wasn't dinging you guys for running the group buy; you're providing a great value for your members. Obviously, Unichip is in the business of making money, and making as much money as they possibly can. I was merely pointing out that some people have a problem paying the amount of money for something that doesn't provide tangible feedback of the money spent.
[ETA] Has anyone provided any feedback on the effect this unit will have on MPG?
I paid way more than $600 for my exhaust and cai for a return of perhaps 8-10hp at most. If this tuner can take advantage of those components and bring in a total of 30-40hp it will be well worth it to me. If my milage goes up by 1.5 to 2 mpg that will be a bonus.
Not interested in what others feel in this matter. My truck and my money and my choice.
Don't like this tuner? Go hate somewhere else on someone who cares.

A chip without a dyno tune is a waste. I've never seen a one size fits all chip that performs as advertised. This motor has some potential and 20/26 increase isn't it.
Anybody offering the chip w/ an hour on the dyno with an o2?
How about you actually read ALL of the info posted on threads before you post? The chips are pre-tuned for mods. they are tuning for a majority of intakes. I've already posted which ones, and you can add TRD to it. The exhausts didn't make much of a difference from brand to brand, but was a big improvement over stock. Of course getting it dyno tuned for your vehicle will net more power, that's a given that we all already know. And I would like for you to name another tuner that will see more than 20/26 gain STOCK.

All, I have some information that I feel as though I need to share regarding the other guy making a tuner. I have always had a feeling from the beginning that he wasn't being very truthful. I noticed his threads have been deleted and I'm not sure why. This isn't meant as an "I told you so" or a move to make the Unichip look better. I just wanted to make everyone aware and not be left in the dark about something that I have known for a while. See email below.
Hi Nola,
We understand why the guy on the forum is upset . He is apparently the guy that approached us a while ago & wanted us to provide him a programmer for the Tundra 5.7 , which he wanted to distribute exclusively (his correspondence is available for your eyes only). We had at that time already completed our development & due to the high volume of demand for the kit we declined his request for an exclusive .
It looks as though he doesn't actually manufacture anything , he is just a go-between ! His comments are just sour grapes : we've had 100% positive feedback from all the guys that we've sold kits to (feel free to post a request for someone who's actually unhappy to speak up). He slates our kit , which is easily done as he hasn't actually released anything which he can compare it to !
As to the future upgrades etc. : once again , how can HE say what WE can & cannot do? Unichip has a proud 15 year world-wide history & our products are based on solid engineering experience . Our proof lies within the quality of our products , not on "sales" pitches posted on forums ! The "knock the socks off" comment is particularly interesting : anyone who has actual TUNING EXPERIENCE , not just go-between selling experience , will know how well developed Toyota engines & maps are . Unichip tunes the last possible horsepower out of these already well-tuned normally aspirated engines , so to expect anything more from a competitor's product is truly laughable .Our guarantee clearly states that Unichip will refund anyone who can prove that a similar product produces more power on his vehicle : not a mere sales-pitch , it's putting our money where our mouth is!
As to the selling of the kit on the TSforum , We didn't post anything, it's a once-off favour for the forum guys , through one of their members (you). It seems that the guy is really bugged by anyone "making money" & it looks as though making money is HIS only agenda , contrary to saying that he's trying to build relationships...

Hopefully this post doesn't get deleted because its something I think everyone who believed in him should know. If you would like to wait for other tuners, or dyno numbers then that is completely fine with me. Just don't count on him and everything that he has told us coming to fruition because it has all been smoke and mirrors. Never posting pictures, his lack of technical knowledge, multiple injuries and sickness, its all bs.

hi, 1 thing i have to add.
i have dyno'ed my tundra, as many if not all of you that have read the post's & thread's know.
although it is only a 2005 4.7 VVTI, i proved by the dyno, that the UNICHIP does indeed work.and work well.
UNICHIP showed increase's in not only HP but TORQUE as well.
and yes, combined with other aftermarket product's, my increase's were in my opinon TOTALLY AWESOME!
UNICHIP is a great company, and will continue to be great.
what you all have to remember is this is a module, not a turbo or supercharger. and it's not 6grand either. it's $600.
it's one of the BEST company's for our toyota tundra for HP & TORQUE gain's.
money well spent, considering all my other mod's and the money i spent on those.
