RE octane thats what I thought. I was concidering using some to help with the 1/4 tank of 89 I have left. I think I will just use a bit more of the tank and fill with 91

Got the unichip this afternoon and installed it right off in the 100* sun. Had to remove the TRD airbox and looosen the black box between the air box and ecu to have room to install the plugs. Got it all installed and in my excitement forgot to plug in the maf senor and as a result, got cel. Also had the traction control light flashing along with the 4lo light. Plugged in the maf and went to pick up the gf with the lights still flashing.
It seemed that the engine reved more freely and although I didnt get on it to hard, the accelleration seemed better also. (the 600 bucks I spent on it may have influanced my perception) Too soon to tell about milage of course
Now how do I reset the cel and other lights? I may be forced to read the rest of the instructions
First impressions are improved performance, but nothing overwhelming. I am on the low octane map at the moment. May go out after a shower and dinner to get better fuel and try some harder runs. Any opionions about octane boosters?
Dumb question, but is the ECU located inside of the engine bay and not behind the the glove box like Generation 1? I just haven't looked for the ECU before. So is the Unichip mounted in the engine bay?
The ecu is mounted on the firewall on the passenger side behind the air filter box in the engine bay. Its the large vertical plugs (2). The unichip computer is velcroed to the top of the small black box between the air filter box and the plugs on the firewall.

really? i thoguht its plug n play so we can keep it hidden so its not detectable for dealership
Got my chip installed last night too, the harnesses are a little short and make the install a bastard. That along with the tall connection cover on the smaller ecu plug make clearance almost none and I was afraid to bend a pin while fitting it for 15 minutes. It also doesn't fit like the instaructions say, buy the time everything is attached, every harness is fairly tight. I may have to disconnect everything and see if there is a different way of arranging the harnesses but after fighting the small bottom plug I just wanted to get it in. I ran it a little bit, truck seem to make more power but I'm not sure if the tranny new what to do with it.... Does anyone know if UNICHIP changed the shift points in the flash or is it just shifting different with the extra power. Also, should I have told them that I have larger/ heavy mud tires on my truck and not to change the shiftpoints any?
Gonna see if the wife will drag with me in the 08 Crewmax and see a difference that way, also I'm pulling my 9k 5th wheel tonight and will be able to feel the extra torque and hopefully see a couple MPG's increase.

Just talked to Unichip, no trany changes... so I guess the feel is more power and the trany acting differently. I'll report back on the rest of the stuff after the long weekend.

All the lights are off again. I disconnected the battery last night and everthing reset. The lights were caused by me not plugging in the maf sensor and starting the engine, not the unichip.
Agree with the poster that said the install was tight and did not install in the vertical position next to the oem ecu as instructions said it would. On the other hand it was smoking hot yesterday (100+) afternoon, I was in the full sun, and the engine was also hot. I was sweating like a galley slave and in a hurry to finish so I could pick up the gf in town. It might install correctly if I was more comfortable. If others can accomplish this please post and I will redo my install when its cooler.
I ended up installing it horizontally over the oem ecu. Yeah the bottom plug was a mf to install, I removed the air filter box and then the black box in front of the ecu to make room to operate the plug levers. Short harness. Little clearance.
I am running the A map at the moment. I am going to fill up with 91 octane in a little while and see if it runs on B map and makes the big power I will report back when I return.

Do the multiple maps only come on the flux models? The reason I ask is because I only told the unichip guy about my mods...not the type of fuel I run. So does my non-flux model have settings for premium and regular fuel, or will it just come programmed for one type of fuel? If so, which one?
is it just shifting different with the extra power
Did you diconnect the batt before the install? If so your truck is re-learning the way you drive. The computer that controls the trans adapts to the way we drive.
I noticed the same thing when I installed my CAI. Took about a tank of gas before the truck felt the same.

Yes A map and B map. here is what uni-chip has to say about it;
Quote:
Each basic kit contains a switch loom with a Map A/B switch. The first position you should try for this switch is “0” which is Map A. Map A is a conservative timing map that all vehicles should tolerate with 87-octane fuel. Map B (the “I” position) is a more aggressive timing map that most vehicles should tolerate with 92-octane or higher fuel.
After you establish a baseline feel for the vehicle running on Map A, ensure you’re using premium grade fuel, select Map B and evaluate the difference. When you select Map B, you may feel a performance increase, a performance decrease, or no change at all depending upon your specific vehicle. If you feel an increase or no change, your engine is tolerating the additonal timing well and you can leave the switch there as long as you are running premium fuel.
If you feel a loss of performance after selecting Map B, your vehicle is not accepting the additional timing and is reducing OEM timing to compensate. Your options are to use a higher octane fuel grade or simply run Map A. If you are using a quality premium fuel and still feeling a power loss in Map B, running Map A is providing all of the potential gain and you should leave the switch there.

Ran it a little at lunch, it seems to be getting better still kinda hangs a bit in 1st and 2nd then when third and 4th grab it is definately accelerating harder. That's in the A map since I have half talk of reg and half a tank of Premium in right now. So while the tranny is learning again, how will it be affected by me pulling my 5th wheel? It's about 9k loaded and has a stand up bedroom so it's pretty tall and makes the motor pull pretty good. If I have it in Tow/Haul will it just relearn for that setting?
