I assume you disconnected your battery during the Unichip instalation. How many miles did you have on the truck for the runs. It could be possible that the computer was not able to learn the proper shifting and conditions for your area. Just a thought.

Perhaps we now know why the company did not post the dyno numbers before.....I am not into chip mods and such but it seemed peculiar that the company producing the chip did not back up the product with some testing results.....

Most of the times shops that dynotune actually charge a base price.
The shop that was gonna tune my truck with the unichip was gonna charge a $400 flat rate.
Now if you are just gonna dyno the truck most of the time its somthing like $70 for 2 or 3 pulls.

I spent another 800 miles this weekend driving my unichip equipped truck. Here is some more of my feedback below:

Fuel mileage has not increased under normal driving…it is either the same or slightly worse. I have not tried towing anything yet to check that…maybe next weekend.

I am still quite concerned about the lean readings I get on my wideband o2 readings (low 15s and 14s) in 1st and 2nd gear. 3rd gear is marginal with mid to high 13s towards redline. For those of you without a wideband you have probably noticed that the power is pretty weak in those (1st and 2nd) gears with a noticeable jump in power on the shift into 3rd.

I would be satisfied overall if there was not an issue in the first 2 gears as the unichip did seem increase power enough to justify the expense. I do not want to be risking my engine with the first 2 gears being so lean.

I also tried taking off my airraid intake and driving a few hundred miles. Power went down a little, fuel mileage went down a little, and the o2 sensor readings improved very slightly. I am going to put it back on.

Maybe some time spent with my gtech would be well spent. That way we would have more data for others to see. I will be running in 4wd so I don't have to worry about the electronic nannies messing with my results.

Honestly, I think we need to relax a little.

My truck is getting better and better as it relearns its programming. I can't say I'm thrilled yet, but there is a significant difference is power and how the engine feels. I realize that these are subjective opinions.

Until the truck has relearned it is not reasonable to either dyno or to use accelerometers, on the other hand 800 miles is enough to relearn.

Another subjective opinion from another Ross.
I perceive a noticeable gain in power, 1&2 gear do not suffer loss of power, but seem improved. Never had tire spin as I now experience on hard launch through 1st and 2nd, pulls hard on up the gears.
although I am not currently on my regular driving habits because I have the week off, my average mileage as shown on the display has increased from 15.1 to 17.2 mpg. Need more drive time to verify this increase.
I have an UC authorized tuning shop near me and they said that to tune would be $150. per hr with a minimum of 2 hrs required. they could not quote typical hp/tk gains,(have not done enough 5.7's, gains can vary) but said the maps provided from the UC factory were generally somewhat conservative, and there would be some gain to be had from additional tuning. Sadly, I cant do it at the moment.

Well just got off the phone with the guys at Unichip. I must say they do take thier customer service seriously. They are taking care of everything and have been responding to my concerns promtly. Now if I could only get the fools at COMCAST to take note on how to deal with customers correctly. Hopefully I will get this puppy soon, I have a couple of days off work and I would like to get this setup done before my trip this weekend. Hope the others who had some concerns got the same treatment I recieved.

Is the lean condition only at WOT??

Well, I checked the proper "white sheet", the Bill of Sale, and the info is correct for my mods. I feel the truck runs a little more aggressively , but seems to ping when under hard acceleration just before shifting to second (could be quality of gas, i suppose). Also, I have put a little over 200 miles on the programmed truck and it seems my mileage has decreased...I usually dont break 2k-2.5k on the RPM o' meter and I drive about 70-75mph on average.

I have larger than stock tires on my truck and the speedo is wrong and, therefore, the estimated MPG in the display is wrong. But, I do not think this would be the reason it dropped from an average of 13.5 to 12.4 or so. I will give it a little more time for the mpg, but it does seem quicker. The pinging has a me a bit nervous, though.

Oh, on a side note, I have alomost 40k miles on the truck...mostly highway (long dang drive to work) and when I hit around 30k miles my VSC, ABS, and one other light came on. We thought it was a pinched wire somewhere from an alignment in the front, but it turned out the truck needed the injectors cleaned because it was running uber lean (40 or so). I wonder if this programmer will allow the factory computer to read if the engine is running too lean or will it just tell the computer what it wants it to think. Just a thought.

Yes the lean is only at WOT...otherwise it is at stoich (sp?) 14.7 to 1.

I finally got to do some gtech runs with the unichip…overall I was pretty impressed with the results. Keep in mind that the gtech mph in these runs is about 5-6 mph high as I have seen in the past from comparing it to actual dragstrip passes. I have one of the old radar detector looking gtechs that I have found to be accurate to within a few tenths.

Truck & Mods: 07 double cab 4x4 trd 5.7 with magnaflow exhaust, modified (elbow removed & additional 1.5” air hole drilled) stock air box with drop in filter, self ported (sharp edges smoothed out) throttle body, unichip piggyback (set up for airraid intake & exhaust) with switch set for maximum spark advance & high octane fuel.

Run #1 (2wd vsc on) – similar to what I would expect the average driver/tester to run
6.02
14.59 @ 99 = 94mph

Run #2 (4wd, brake boosted & stall flashed)
5.54
14.02 @ 102.6 = 97 mph

Run #3 (4wd, brake boosted & stall flashed)
5.60
14.06 @ 102.6 = 97 mph

Run #4 (2wd, vsc off, very good/lucky launch)
5.58
14.06 @ 102.9 = 97.5 mph

As you can see the times in 4wd (runs #2 & #3) were very close. The temperature was about 65 degrees at about 400 foot elevation. I only had about ¼ tank of premium in the truck so that probably helped too.

When I get a chance I am going to see what it runs with the airraid installed as well as without the unichip.

After owning a number fast vehicles over the past 10 years or so my butt dyno would say the truck feels like a low to mid 14 second truck so that goes along with my results. The truck doesn’t pull real hard at higher speeds, but it launches pretty well due to the low gears and 6 speed tranny.

Looks like the chip is dialed into your truck pretty well. No way you are going to get a 14.0x without it......... Congrats !!!!
