I have been reading some of the discussion on TS and there seems to be more questions than answers. We’d be happy to provide answers – shoot us questions at techsupport@unichip.us .
To address the G-Tech Pro question - how hot was it in April? How hot was it on Sept. 1? Did you have the traction control on? Did you run it on the same road? Uphill or downhill? A lot of thing can make a difference in your runs even with the best test equipment. A G-tech is a fine product, but it’s not a precision instrument and better suited to for general monitoring. Repeatability to within 1% isn’t what it’s designed for; if it was, the guys selling the $10k data loggers would be looking for a new job. If you do six runs back to back, you’ll see six different results. We used a G-tech on the 5.7L Tundra. We did 16 runs with and without the Unichip within a 1 hour period on the same day at nearly the same temperature, on the same test road and still had to average. It’s the nature of the beast.
The “lazy” shift sounds like the traction control is on. We found the same thing during our testing. Try turning the traction control “off” ( hold for 5 seconds or so) and put the truck in 4x4 high; this eliminates most of the traction control functionality and gives a better launch (same technique the 4x4 diesel truck drag guys use). Come to a complete stop and then floor it! (Power braking is actually slower even with the traction control “off”).
Some of what you guys are seeing now is why we didn’t post dyno charts. These new vehicles are a lot smarter than our old Chevy 350s, we all know that. They behave very differently, and often not so nicely, on the dyno compared to what they do on the street.
The AFR’s the one guys is talking about sound essentially like it should be. At part throttle (closed loop) the truck runs 14.7-1 AFR which is the federally mandated specification; there’s no legal option there. In open loop (full throttle), we run about 13-1 AFR which is sufficiently rich for safety.
You will see a lot of different numbers from different trucks, on different days, under different conditions, and using different tools. Just because another guy says he makes 10 bhp more over on the other side of the country doesn’t mean he really is. Different truck, different days… etc… Does the chip make power? Yes, about 0.4 seconds 0-60 with the traction control disabled. Does it give better gas mileage? Yes under tow. How do we know? Three months of testing and averaging on 8 different trucks.

Looking at your times, if it's accurate, the Unichip has you running in RCSB times. For a DC 4X4, I would be very pleased. Don't know what your 60 foot time is but if you can get that down along with some weight reduction you will be doing excellant!!
The 0.4 second 0 to 60 improvement (posted by unichip) fits almost perfectly with the results from my gtech (runs #2-4). 6.0 to 6.1 seconds stock compared to 5.5 to 5.6 seconds per my runs is a 1/2 second improvement. Maybe my wideband doesn't react fast enough to 1st and 2nd gears as they are gone quick. What I would really like is an actual honest high 13 second timeslip from the track...now if it wasn't my bowhunting season I'd be there very soon. I'll probably post some more different runs in a few days...too busy right now.
hi, i'm no pro, but i listen to them. the problem here is to many people think!!!!! they know everything. 1 thing i learned a long time ago is ,if i don't know something i don't asume, it make's a a$$ out of myself.
here is a perfect case.
you guy's all have the right to buy or not to buy. with that said UNICHIP is a GREAT AWESOME product, especially for the money. it work's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it will do what it was made to do. mine does, it has been proven over & over so many time's , i'm tired of explaining.
i couldn't & wouldn't ever go back to stock, knowing how my truck run's with the UNICHIP installed.
when all of you get them, and have them installed, and about 1/2 not knowing what they are doing, are going to have a problem or 2.
the other 1/2 will finally realize that the product work's.
i heard over and over about the nanny's. and i heard how fast the truck is, by some other's say it's slow, other's say they are selling there's.
but 1 thing is for sure ,
the right people have said the truck need's to have all the nanny's OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
do yourself a big favor and buy the TRD supercharger, and have it installed ,end of story.
you can only do so much with a gas chip module.
fuel/air/timing,thats it.
and within that you can change shift points, rpm's, and maybe a few other thing's, etc.
BUT thats it.
and to pay for it for what you guy's got it for is a GIFT!
now, when all of you get it and install it correctly, hopefully buy a professional,
and have it custom tuned, on a dyno, than i'd bet my last dollar that that guy would LOVE IT!
remember it's not turbo nor a supercharger.
if that's what you wanted, you bought the wrong product.
funny thing i found out that many people here don't even own a toyota that they claim.
i know this for a fact last year's meet a guy claimed to be someone else, the real guy lived in calif. & didn't come to the meet. he know's, i messaged him.
and i've talked to a few people here that are looking for a tundra, but yet they claim at the top right what they have.
so be careful who is saying what here.
many here just like to start trouble.
i said this a long time ago, spend 700 or 7000. i'd bet more will buy the UNICHIP, instead of the trd supercharger.
gorilla
Im not trying to start trouble here , i just posted a couple of intial g-tech runs.
Traction control OFF, same road (flat) --yes it was cooler in april versus sept 1st.
I will try again this weekend in the early am and do more runs and then average. I will be looking to have it custom tuned.
Im not knocking the product..

WOW!!! I don't know about others but my butt dyno is liking this unichip. I was skeptical about how this would perform on my truck. I guess my truck was pretty rich cause I am definatley feeling more power. I must say even though my order was screwed up to begin with, they took care of it quickly without any hassles. Just wanted to thank NOLA and others who got this group price, I am grinning ear to ear. Time to go play heh.

I found the GTech repeatability to be reasonable. Any significant variances I had were due to not cooling down enough between passes, or idling too long before launching (i.e. begins to heat soak).
I will finally get a chance to really run the truck. I have put close to 200 miles on it, bt finally got the alignment today, so ....I will let er rip. I know I could tell a difference already, just piddlin' around. I am just curious about the mileage. I will have to get some averages. I dirve at leat 100 miles a day, so it shouldn't take too long.
And, yes, I would definitely like to thank Nola for all his hard work and the heartache of dealing with dozens of fidgety truck guys.

I just got my UniChip in today (stupid local FedEx was closed yesterday) and installed it. I am liking it so far. Many thanks to NOLA for his time involved with this.
Now.....where is everyone installing their map selector rocker switches? I am thinking of putting mine next to the GBS, but not sure if I should even put it inside the cab. Anyone done this so far?
Mods/Installs: UniChip Programmer, AFE Stage 2 Cold Air Intake, Dumped Classic Chambered 3" Exhaust, Truxedo Low-Pro Tonneau Cover, Flush Mount Toolbox, EGR Slimline Sunvisors, 4% All Around 3M Window Tint, Anytime Backup Camera, and a few more mods.
Mods/Installs to Come: Eventual 2/4 Drop w/Air Spring Assistance.
I finally got my Unichip today. As others mentioned, install was a pain because of limited room and the length of the OEM loom. The Unichip loom was plenty long enough.
Drove approximately 50 miles on highway/city streets so far. Had the chance to open her up several times and my truck it definitely making more power across the board. I am loving it!
