No. When you order your unit, you let Unichip know what mods you have and they will send it to you with a custom tune set up for whatever mods you have. It may not be set up for the EXACT cai or exhaust you have, but it will work flawlessly. If you want to squeeze a little more, you'll have to see a tuner so he can tune based on your specific parts and vehicle variances. You will never have to see a tuner if you don't want too. The tuner may only get you another 5 hp or so increase from the Unichip tune.
I don't think that 5hp is worth the cost of the tuner and the 5hr round trip drive. Thanx for the info.

I don't think you're understanding what I'm trying to say. I'll try to clarify a bit. If you have a Tundra with cai and exhaust, when you order your chip, you will let Unichip know that you have these mods. They will send your tuner with a map specifically for your mods. Your looking at at leat 40hp over stock with cai and exhaust. IF you take it to a tuner, you could very well get an additional 5-10 hp on top of that for an increase of 45-50 hp. Just ask Gorilla and look at his dyno. Now an additional 5-10 hp may not be worth the dyno and tuning time to you, but to some it may be.

I just spoke with Mike Timmons of Unichip on the phone. They are still trying to locate a 4.7 to work on. If anyones close, give Unichip a call, or let me know personally. Can anyone confirm if the ecu harness is the same on the 4.7 and 5.7? If so, that will speed up the process and they hope to have it ready in two weeks. They are working on fine tuning shift points and traction control features. Mike is leary of posting whp numbers because of the potential for people to not believe them and say that they were fudged on the dyno. He says his crank numbers are very accurate. He is instead going straight to the track with the Tundra! He will eventually post dyno numbers, but he wants to show 0-60 and 1/4 mile numbers first. He told me so far they are seeing an increase of half a second in 0-60 runs on a STOCK tundra. Us DC owners may very well hit stock RC numbers with this tuner!
He also said that they will be updating the firmware to allow end user tunability via laptop or PDA soon. He said once the limiter is removed, the map will be downloadable free of charge! They will update maps as necessary. Let's say we need to get reflashes from toyota for whatever reason. Unichip will make any updates and release the new maps for free. You can't beat this tuner guys!

hi, i got 26HP from my unichip module. if i took my truck to a authorized uncihip shop to have it additionally fine tuned to achieve the most for my vehcile. because as you know, every vehicle even if we have the same exact truck with the same motor, will produce different #'s.
i could get possibly another 20 more HP on my 4.7
not 5HP.
and do to my limitor i was restricked to gain HP & torque because i reached the limitor before i reached my peak HP & peak torque!
hope that helps explain it a little better.
look at the dyno sheet it was still going up. when it hit the limitor.
that's why i want the limitor removed. if you do not want your's removed , your only loosing out on more HP & more torque.

Reason: additional explaination
Unichip is interested in knowing everything that we want out of this tuner. They are working on the speed limiter, rpm limiter and other cool features. The Flux system will be the best thing since sliced bread with regards to end user tunability. You won't need to be a genious to make your own adjustments. For you 4.7 guys, they will have one out for you before anyone else.

I'm sure you would. The reason I say 5-10 hp is because Unichip is creating maps for cai and exhaust systems for the 07 & 08 tundra's, so it will come with a pretty good tune as a baseline.

There's all this talk about 40+ hp, but at what RPM is this achieved? Most likely, it's at redline or close to it. What about useful [torque] gains in the normal driving rpm range?
I would like to see torque and HP stock vs chipped, plotted on an RPM graph to see if we will see gains throughout the rpm range or just at high rpm.

Unichip is putting this info together as we speak. You can check out Gorilla's dyno with Unichip. A link is posted to it in the group buy thread. You can also check out the dyno's posted for the Titan on the Unichip site. The Titan's engine is similar to the Tundra with regards to engine displacement and technology. I believe PullThis is also going to do a before and after dyno with and w/out Unichip.

UNA has dyno charts on their website as well. Have any of you looked at the website?
The peak torque numbers are around 4k RPM. That's easily attainable for the DD. Again, read their FAQ, it has a ton of info answered that you are asking questions about. That's why it's in the Frequently Asked Questions, because they are frequently asked.
NOLA, thanks for being so ontop of this GB and answering the repolies so fast.

No problem. Thanks for your help in answering some of these questions. As Tundradrenalin said, check their website. Look at all of the different cars and trucks that they have dyno's posted for. You'll see that the gains are throughout the rpm range.

I understood what you were saying. I know I would get decent gains from the Chip and additional gains from a tuner tweeking it. Going to the tuner would cost me a lot of money and if I'm only going to get 5-10hp, I don't think it's worth it (my opinion).I do think the Chip is worth the $$ for the hp gains.

Correct. The unit will come well-tuned from Unichip. Because of vehicle variations, you can squeeze a little more out if you didn't mind paying for it. Should you opt to get the Flux system once its released for the 07+ Tundra, you would be able to do all the tweaking yourself.
