the dyno doesn't work like that, you can't just put in a gear ratio and go tuning. we use a mustang dyno that uses a 1 to 1 ratio for its calculations. it is a eddy current dyno and the most accurate dyno on the market. used by vortech superchargers along with aem, unichip, and many others. now when the dyno calculates its runs, it takes into account: weather station, areodynamics of a said vehicle and many other factors to give an accurate hp#. the problem is that i can only make power pulls in second gear, i am going to rent a truck and figure out how to control the trans without leaving a footprint in the ecu, since that is what most are concerned with. so until that point you have to look at gains only, and so far they have been pretty good.hope this helps
ALL runs were done after the new exhaust , - the tuner pointed out how restictive my muffler back system was in several areas.
I ordered the unichip with cai/headers/cat-back.
Ryder,
Can you comment more on the restrictions that he pointed out? I want to do a custom exhaust as well instead of an off the shelf cat back. Did he replace the stock piping with new mandrel bent piping all the way back to the cat? What size piping?
Thanks

Uhhh...I hope those are not the numbers from a 5.7..
WOW I was thinking the same thing. Did someone pull a couple of spark plug wires??? LOL I was getting near 325 at the rear wheels with a CAI and Exhaust @ 1000' above sea level.

The numbers are low because it was dynoed in second gear instead of fourth gear because the truck will constantly downshift to second. Regardless, the power increase was significant. The dyno should only be used as a benchmark for tuning. It's not a very accurate indicator of peak power because there are different types of dynos and varying conditions.

*reading between the lines*
But they don't have that problem any more because the removed the speed limiter!
Now you're squinting very hard to read between those lines, lol. I didn't say that...
Stay tuned and don't lose faith in the product. As Ryder and SoCali proved, the product is as solid a tuner as you can get without going to a full standalone. Some of us may or may not have some gremlins to work out, but there were over 50 people who bought the chip and we have only heard of two or three guys with minor problems that I'm sure can be worked out. The majority of us, however, are having a fun, trouble-free time with our chips. Unichip has much more in stock for us.

He replaced the stock pipe from the cat back to the dual v-force mufflers
with mandrel bent 2.5" pipes and there is a cross over pipe BEFORE the mufflers versus the cross over pipe that was BEHIND the flowmaster 50 (dual in/out) --and the pipes running to the rear were only 2"

gains for your 2 guys..i didn't get any gains
i took chip off and yes i feel alot more power, i'm able to break my tires loose again before wit the chip it wouldn't even sqeel the tires
i tried to confirm wit unichip if they gave me the correct maps but he kept on going with something else
grrrrrrrrrrrr
If you get a custom tune, you cant go wrong. Andrew from San Dimas Auto was saying how unlike Dodge, Chevy, Nissan, Honda, etc...., no two Toyota or Ford vehicles ever run the same. Thats why canned tunes don't work so well for us, regardless of what unichip says about the tune they send. That may be why some of us are reporting awesome gains right out of the box and others might actually loose some. The Truck Unichip used could be way off from the truck you use. Only way to get the most out of it is a custom tune. The problem with this is Unichip shops are far and few, however there are alot more than when i had my first Unichip on my 01 tundra.

I'm not sure what it's like today, but when I drag raced in the '70s, it cost about $100 for every tenth shaved off your 1/4 mile ET. The cost of the chip and the tune is around $1000. Does it take a full second off the 1/4 ?

problem is that most of all the competent tuners out there, that have the know-how to work on our trucks.... do NOT live anywhere around me. (that I know off)
Most are in SoCal.
I would pay to have a good custom tune any day of the week. I have been doing it in drag cars for a long time now.

and
i assume you have access to the unichip program to tune the unichip module. but lets see how many unichip owners here is south florida we are?
