Default Unichip Tuner

I've been talking to a Unichip rep lately. The numbers posted on the site is for a completely stock vehicle. If you look at the numbers for a Nissan Titan pickup stock with Unichip versus one with a cai and catback, its closer to 40 hp/ 40 tq. The Tundra will most likely be very similar to this. I'm assuming NYC Tundra is claiming optimistic numbers for a Tundra with full bolt-ons, not stock. The Unichip should be able to do everything that NYC's will do except for the speed limiter, but it sounds like this is achievable without any tuner. The rep told me that they are currently compiling the dyno charts showing whp increases with full bolt-ons. He also said that he would do a group buy if I could get enough people interested.

Not to piss on NYC Tundra's parade or anything, but this thread reminds me of one when i had my RX8. This guy was developing a new supercharger kit for it, but after almost three years and a thread that exceeded 1,000 pages and covered every imaginable topic other than superchargers, nothing ever saw the light of day. Everyone seems more willing to wait on someone who hasn't proven his credentials, or shown us anything versus buying a proven product by a reputable company. Just a thought.

He said that they already have about 25 different maps, some with cai and exhaust, though he didn't say which systems. Most maps were developed for PullThis, a member of our site. So the maps should be fine tuned for the mods that he has. He said they are currently trying numerous different combinations such as TRD intake/exhaust, Volant intake/JBA Exhaust, etc. They are able to give a generic tune for bolt-ons, but it will probably be a few weeks for a specific tune based on specific parts. You could also have it tuned at an authorized dealer. He's going to give me info as he gets it, so I'll post more as soon as he contacts me again.

Just check the dealer locator on the website to see. You may luck out and have one very close. There really aren't very many "certified tuners" out there for any tuning system because you have to travel to the products headquarters, take a class and pay money. There may be non-certified tuners who are closer that can do it as well. I only have two certified tuners in my entire state, luckily one happens to be a friend of mine. Unfortunately, he moved to another city about an hour and a half away from me. He likes the Unichip for what it is and can do, but he is a hardcore tuner who prefers stand alones like motec and haltech.

Again, you can order the Unichip with a base map tuned for a cai and exhaust, only it will still be conservative because not all intakes, exhausts and trucks are alike. To get the absolute most out of the truck, you will have to get it tuned and that goes for any tuning system.

This question was on my mind also. I emailed unichip over the weekend asking this question:
When will a unit that takes CAI and cat back performance exhaust into account be ready for the 2007 Tundra 5.7?

and this is the reply I got:
We hope to fully release this product at the end of July – at this time we are only taking pre-orders on Stock applications.

Yeah, Jack Jones sent me the same reply initially. Then I spoke with Michael Timmons, who was much more helpful. See below.

We are still putting all this info together. It take time to find trucks to barrow, (people want to do be hard on there truck, not us!) swap out intakes, tune each intake with and without exhaust (a days project for each intake only) swap exhaust systems, dyno runs (our dyno only measure HP & Torque at the crank). Then take it to anther Dyno shop and do it all over again, swap intakes and exhausts etc., just to get rear wheel HP. Then we need to spend a day with each Map doing 0 to 60 time runs. Currently we have around 25 different maps and not one include headers yet. We do have a customer that has headers and is running a Unichip and say it feel right and he competes in truck pull competitions.

When then take all the info calculated and build our outcome sheet. Once this is done we will be able to pass along all this info. We do this because we want to make sure are # are correct. Making a mistake now days can heart a company business in the internet world. We are hoping late next week to have all this info completed.

I understand the excitement because I’m excited too! This is going to be BIG when it’s all done.

What I can tell you is:

1.)We have heard form current customer that gas millage has improved under towing conditions.
2.)We have definitely increased the HP.
3.)We have improved 0-to 60 times, depending on what accessories your truck has will determine how much!

Thanks for your excitement and feel free to email me with any question,

Michael Timmons

He initially asked me what did we Tundra owners want to see in a tuner. I told him we wanted to see increases in wheel horsepower for stock and bolt-ons, 0-60 times, 1/4 mile times, mpg increases, etc. He said that he has staff working on this as we speak. Notice Jack's title of customer support rep versus Michael's title of Western Regional Sales Director. Micheal informed me that they have actually sold out of their first batch of tuners, so the comment Jack made about preorders is semi-correct. The next batch will be able to be tuned for bolt-ons. I'm not sure when the next batch will be ready. I'm waiting on Michael to reply to my last email.

Should I create a separate thread in order to create a list of those who would be interested in a group buy? I'll get with mods if there are enough of us to do an official one. By the way, I am in no way affiliated with Unichip. I was simply asked by Michael to gauge interest in the product and relay any questions that we may have to him.

All, I have received the go ahead from Unichip to set up a group buy. Before I post any info on discounts, which is significant, can someone help me in setting up the group buy. Who do I need to contact? I don't want to start a thread that will get deleted.
