This is a discussion thread titled "Powder coating stock wheels?", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Just curious if anyone here can tell me about how much it would cost to powder coat (black) all four of my stock 18" rims (trd). What is the usual amount of time this takes and who here has done it? Pictures would be great.
Thanks in advance.

I had the wheels powder coated on my old truck and it cost about $200 a wheel. It is pretty expensive because i have seen some really awesome wheels for about $900, 22". If you really like the look of the stock wheels i'd say go for it. Sometimes the stock wheels do look the best.

What you're going to find, is that it varies by a large margin from one place to another (regionally) and based on what accepted prices are, and how much competition there is, etc. Also, some place that will do it cheap might be a good deal, or they might just do a half-assed job too. Best to basically get out the phone book and find places local to you that do it, and then go visit and see some of their work and get some pricing quotes.
I advise caution in selecting the shop that does the powdercoating for you. Make sure they don't bake the wheels at more than 375 degrees F because cast aluminum will become weaker after that temp. Also, you want to see some examples of work they do before you trust them with your wheels.

I'm here in the Phoenix area and just last month got an extra set of the TRD stock wheels powder coated black! They look great! Look at my pics. I got the set from ebay because I wanted to powder coat them and get some 305x65x18 toyo mts instead of payin too much for new wheels. Besides I love the look of them!!! Affordable Powder coating in Phoenix did the job for me for only $195.18 for all four wheels! I truly recommend these guys. They have been around a long time and do alot of auto powder coats. Last week I gave them my mesh grille to black powder coat. After I get my tires and black TRDs put on I'm going to powder coat my current TRDs and sell them for more on ebay!! Powder coat those TRDs black...you won't regret!!!
