Default Dealing with the Dealer on a new CM

Now that prices are a little better for us poor folks, Im looking heavy at a new SR5 Crewmax 5.7 4x4.

I was trying to stay away from all the extra crap that they throw on at the dealer that I don't need, nor want, like carpeted floor mats, running boards, wheel and stereo upgrade, etc. Its amazing how much all that stuff starts adding up. Its actually kind of rediculous about the price of the "STAINLESS STEEL EXHAUST TIP" and the "DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS"... hell, thats a hundred bucks right there! Im upgrading the wheels, tires, suspension, stereo and all that stufff anyway in the next few months.

Well, of course the dealers don't have the truck Im looking for. How easy is it to go about getting them to scratch the cost on the options on trucks already on their lots??? And how should I go about doing this?

Luckily, I am in the Houston area, so I have plenty of dealerships to choose from.

So far, Im getting some decent price quotes(around 25 grand), just not on the Silver Sky color... Everybody wants to unload their stock on me.

Luckily, I dont NEEEED a new truck, I just want one

Oh, and it seems that there are 5 trucks that are similar to what Im looking for in Houston, and ALLLLL the major dealerships show them as "AVAILABLE"... They have to be the same trucks.... the prices are all identical.

Thanks for your help in advance. All suggestions are greatly appreciated.

The show "available" because they are in the Houston dealer "pool', in order to find the dealer that has that truck on the lot you will have to look through all of the web sites for the Houston area dealers, just write down the VIN# so that you know you are looking at the same truck. As far as getting a truck without all of the dealer add ons you may be on the wrong side of taht one because they are all looking to move the inventory on their lots without having to make changes to their incoming allocations, you may in a better position to get them to deeply discount the add ons that are dealer installed (read high profit for the dealer) just so they can get the truck off the lot. You can look up my post from almost a year ago on getting around or dealing with the Gulf States dealers but t was a different market a year ago when I got mt truck, Good luck, hope you find the truck you want!!

Never act like this thing you are looking to buy is something you just HAVE to have...Let them know its something you are interested in but don't really care if you don't get it...I sold Mitsu's for a while...this tactic works haha.

I really don't HAVE to have it. I have an 01 Taco that is fully customized to my liking, but Im ready for something bigger for my clients to ride with me in. For some reason, they get all bent out of shape when I cram them in my xtra cab, both physically and emotionally. hahaha... I dont see why Toyota even put the jump seats in the back. An EXTREMELY small child can fit back there, maaaaaaaaybe....

My taco is paid for and I get a FAT car allowance, but I dont want to spend the whole damn thing on a car note... that way I can get all the unnecessary bullsh*t that I have convinced myself that I have to have on every truck I own.

How do I go about getting these invoices I keep heariing people telling buyers to ask for so I can see what the markup is. To be honest, I really don't think they deserve a large markup. Hell, I did all the footwork, they just have it parked on their concrete.

But being that I am in sales myself, I want to be at least somewhat fair. Im trying to keep my payments hovering around 400 bucks a month, hopefully less... Anybody think I can drive off the lot in one of these 4x4 CM 5.7's for under 26 grand?

If I get too much flack, I guess I can remind them that it will be costing me an ADDITIONAL 30 cents a mile just to drive the damn thing.... Luckily, I am blessed with free gas as well.

I agree with the other comments... dealers are hungry for a sale. I just picked up my truck today. Crew Max 4x4 Limited w/TRD ... MSRP of $44,500 and walked out the door with a deal for $33,800 (including rebates).
