TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Tundra Height? Parking Garages?", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I was driving a raised K5Blazer into a downtown Reno casino parking structure once, and the sign said 8'6" so I would make it with like a foot to spare, then the driveway in split, and the piece that was labeled 8'6" was closed, and you had to go into an area with a 6'6" sign. No way was that going to work, had to back out and force everyone behind me out into the street. What a bunch of BS. Thankfully most garages are signed better than that.
Just watch out for any piping or lighting that looks newly added and low, or speed bumps as mentioned.
I've gotten into the habit of reaching my hand up out of the window to see if i can touch the concrete girders or any of the signs that hang down. I am able to park in any of the parking garages in downtown Raleigh just fine.
The first day you go into the garage with the big as* Tundra you will think yuo are gonna hit everything lol , that always scares the sh*t out of my friends
I was giving a friend of mine a ride, and he looked away for a second, and when he looked back he actually screamed because he thought we were going to hit a Civic. I laughed.
I park in a garage at work every day that says 6'5". No problems except when I hit a sign that was lower than that. The sign was hanging on chains, but I wasn't happy that it hit my new truck. I pulled it down, tossed it in a corner and haven't seen it since!
Yep - I was hitting my antenna and I took it slow to avoid hopping. I passed by plenty of
empty spaces until I coud get out of the garage and park in th open. Lost my nerve! : )
A Caution. I have two Tundras and they both hit in two different garages with two different drivers. The cause was the same for both. The car before us went through and we were following closely such that the door started to closes and them popped up again when our trucks were senced. For some reason the door sagged a bit, did not open all the way and neither of us noticed. It ripped the break light off of one and just scraped the other.
Both of these garages we park in everyday as they are beside our office so we never epxected it. Lesson - when clearance is tight make sure the doors are open properly!

I'm very careful with a 6'6" clearence. I was trying to go into one and hit a steel beam. I only have scratches on top, not dents. I stopped as soon as I did and back completely out. the clearance marker was 6'6". I now only park in 7' garages.
