nothing wrong with the paint or sheetmetal. you guys just expect too much from a modern truck. my truck is over a year old and 16k miles and no dents no chips no scratches. it sits out side and yes i take care of it. people post that they cant brush up against a bush or rub a water hose on it w/o damaging it, those people need to go back to car care 101...you aint supposed to do that. part of what makes certain vehicles more prone to dents is large panels w/o sharp body lines or creases making the panel more rigid....the sheet metal is the same, its all a thin sheet. push on any truck or car and it will give. fact of life. people gripe about the wierdest things. GM trucks dent on teh top of bed rails because people lean on them all the time and those owners gripe too haha. just take care of it. if u dont want to take care of it, and you want to abuse it go buy a 70s K5 blazer that can take it.

I licked my door, and not only did it strip the paint and clearcoat down to primer, it creased the metal!!!! WTF? I think my truck is made of aluminum foil.

You guys are paranoid and creating issues, I've had my truck for over a year, and I've beat the snot out of it on the farm, at Home Depot, gotten into a small fender bender, and I don't park in BFE of the parking lot...I have no dents. Same thing with my old tacoma.

Naw the sheet matel is NOT the same. my buddies ford can take a HARD hit with his fist that would crumple my fender. I buy trucks to use. Car care 101? Running trucks through brush during a hunt may not be what folks who never get out of the city do, but its normal use for some of my friends. The guy I hunted with last year ran his chevy through manzanita lined trails and the screeching of the branches made the hair on the back of my neck stand up...I said "thats tearing up your paint, we can walk in" and the reply was "thats what I buy a truck for"
No dents, and the marks I thought were permanant buffed out of his newer chevy.
I won't be trying that with MY truck.
And while I love my 07 tundra and have no regrets about buying it, I am not afraid to discuss the few shortcomings and disapointments it has.
Not whining, just real world observation. Blind brand loyalty is unrealistic and foolish babble.

is this an isolated 2007 model problem? I'm curious as I've had my new 2008 about a week and am definitely going to be cautious with the paint/panels.

My dmax dented all along the box top from me kneeling on it.....couldn't believe it....but to me the Tundra seems like it's thin gauge metal even more so, but then again I've got 60 000 miles on it and no paint or dent problems. I also intentionally got white this time, instead of black, so I probably just can't see it.

These trucks definetly have thinner sheetmetal and thinner paint than say my old 01 Cummins. If you actually used your truck , you might see that not every little scratch or ding can be avoided. My point was to make sure that some of the other careless and abusive truck owers , like myself according to you , that are used to a certain level of "ruggedness" from their previous trucks are aware that it is VERY EASY TO DAMAGE THESE NEWER TRUCKS.
