TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Cabin Air Filter", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I noticed that the air flow from my air conditioner was really getting low. I live in a fairly dusty area in Arizona. I pulled the filter out and it was very dirty. Not having the time to have to run out and get a new one, I knocked as much dirt out as possible, sprayed through it with the garden hose and then took it in the sink with dish detergent and cleaned it by slapping it into the water. I got most of the dirt out and let it dry.
The air is blowing much better now.
I will get a new filter, but just wanted to let all know that the filter will hold up to a good washing if you don't have the time to get a new one.
The cabin filters in the 2007/08 Tundras are located directly behind the glovebox, you just snap out the glovebox and there it is in a little canister with tabs.
I just replaced mine but at 10k i checked it was dirty so i pulled it out and gave it a few taps and blew it out with compressed air and it was better. but i still replaced it at 15k.
The filter held together well when I washed it. I think it's a fiberglass type material. The air blew much harder today. For only a few minutes time, it was well worth saving the price of a new one.
Anyone but Toyota carry the Cabin Filter?? Part Number/Price???
Yes, Napa has them listed on their website but no store carried them when i needed mine. I just went to the dealer and paid $3 more.
Napa--$24.00
Dealer--$27.00
Mileage was 15k when i replaced mine and it needed it.
If you haven't changed it annually, be careful with the a/c system. You could freeze up the system and could possibly have a costly repair. The compressor will work overtime and you'll get poor mpg as well.
Do all Tundras of 07/08 have this Cabin Air Filter? I'm assuming mine probably doesn't based on how heavily everything is optioned on Toyota vehicles.
If you have an 07 or 08 then yes you have one. Open your glove-box squeeze the sides near the back and let it open all the way exposing whats behind it. Upper left side you will see the door to the cabin air filter.
Part# is good. Just got a quote from my local NAPA store for $22.19. They don't have it in stock but can pull it out of the state NAPA warehouse - one day notice.
Is it real critical to run the cabin filter? I am a GM tech and they were using the cabin filters for a while and just stopped using them. I know several other vehicles do not use them. Some customers would just take then out and there were no issues. Just wondering?
I would not say that it is critical to use the filters, but it definitely keeps the inside of the truck cleaner and lets you breathe cleaner air.
Also, if you look at my pictures, all that crap caught by the the filter would have been sucked into the fan.
These are the filters out of my Titan at about 9k miles and 9 months.
This is my Tundra filter at about the same time frame as the Titan.
While I didn't take a pictures this time, I just changed them again after 3k miles. They were in much worse shape than the one in the picture because of all the smoke from the fires we have.
