The dealer told me the dry weight was 8,300 lbs, so I thought I would be fine even with the bike and other gear loaded in (500 lbs), but that seems like just the Hitch and Dry Weight combined. Can someone shed some light on this? Also, this is a travel trailer, not a 5th wheeler. Am I screwed here?
As for the truck itself, I have an 08 CrewMax 5.7L 6AT 4x4 Limited with Tow package, but with standard mirrors. I already have a Tekonsha Prodigy Brake Controller and they are installing the weight distribution hitch, but is there anything else I will need right away?...better suspension, tires, etc?
I think it is the dry weight + pin weight, there are still manufacturing differences so the actual weight will probably be different, it will probably be more.
If you really want to know, take it down to one of those CAT scales at a truck stop, pay the $8 and have it weighed.
You won't have a problem towing your trailer with the Tundra. Especially with the weight distribution hitch. On a level highway you will have no problems doing 90-100 Kph.
My trailer fully loaded is close to the same weight as yours if not more with all my junk in there.
If you get your wdh set right you should be all right , if your going to long haul I would air bag the truck with a 5er this takes the harsh banging of the weight out. You are about the same as my 5er in weight. When you can find a safe place to try this shut of your brake controller and come to a hard stop, nice piece of mind that the Tundra does it fine.

even with the stock 275/55/20 Dunlops which are rated at 2409 lbs each for max load?

That's per tire, so that's roughly 9600 pounds max if evenly distributed across the vehicle, which it is not.
The curb weight is 5705 I think...so:
5705/2 = 2852.50
Hitch weight 1040
Total on rear 3892.5 (1946.25 per tire (Rear))
This doesn't include driver/passengers, gear in bed, loading the trailer etc. so you will be getting close. Personally, I would upgrade to an LT "E" rated tire.

Yeah, I'm thinking that too. Will probably be switching to these, but they're a little pricey.
I hope I didn't missunderstand what you were asking/saying but on a tt the dry weight includes the hitch weight. So the total weight of the tt is the dry weight, the hitch weight is just that, the weight on the hitch. Typically you want 10 to 15 percent of the total weight of the trailer to be on the hitch. Then you use the weight distribution hitch to distribute the weight to all 4 wheels of the tow vehicle. You will be very close to the GVWR of the truck after you load gear and people in the vehicle. You will probably be okay on the tow capacity as long as you don't load too much stuff in the trailer. May want to check the CGVWR(combined) also.
If I misunderstood then I apologize, if not I hope this helps.
You'll be ok I think...I was on the interstate the other day and I saw a Jeep Cherokee pulling a damn 36' open fisherman!! Looked like the damn front tires of the Jeep were about to lift off the ground but he was just truckin along lol.

I'm glad ThreeSixT cares to ask and try to get it right instead of heading down the road like that dude!
