I've searched the forums and the DIY stuff is great.
I have a simple wiring question though. If I buy the 20 dollar walmart "foglights" 55W and mount them, can I wire them directly to the headlights without blowing a fuse?
I don't want a separate switch. I want the foglights to be on when I turn the headlights on.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
(I know you get what you pay for - but I was inspired by the "faux foglights" post)
The short answer is no. It would draw too much power for the fuses. If you want them to work as described you will need to run battery power through a relay (fused of course) and turn the relay on with power to the low beams.

I checked the TIS wiring diagram. Each element (LL, LH, RL, RH) has a separate 15 amp fuse. The 55 watt fog draw about 5 amps, so you might get way with wiring one to each of the low beams but it would be close!! If you decide to try it, buy a box of 15 amp fuses before dark.

I would suggest not doing that because of the wire size, but there is nothing to prevent you from doing it. Toyota doesn't size their wires and connectors to take much extra load. If you decide to try that, check to see if the wire is getting warm. If you can notice the temperature rise, it will probably cause problems.

Thank you. I'll give it a shot (post amp purchase).
Should I switch the 15 amps to 20 amps? Would that solve anything?
I appreciate your input.
Only if you plan on roasting marshmallows with the fire in your engine compartment.....
NEVER, I mean NEVER increase the fuse size if you don't know whether or not the wire size can handle the load.......
Buy a relay, they are cheap, and you will accomplish the same thing........

You sure you want to put $20 fogs on a 2008 Tundra? If you pay like $60 you can get a nice pair of Hella fogs from Walmart and they'll come with all the wiring, relay, harnesses, switch, diagrams/directions...everything you need. And they also show you how to wire them so they come on with either your low or hi beams.
