TRUXXX KIT: need help getting dealer to install to save the warranty!
Guys,
I searched and found one other post on this topic, but with only 2 responses, neither of which were of much help.
My Truxxx kit came in yesterday. I am fully capable of doing the installation myself as this would be my 4th suspension kit to install...
The problem is that this truck only has 1800 miles on it and I want to keep the warranty. Ive called a few dealerships in the area and all but one refuses to install it to keep my warranty valid.
The sole dealer that WOULD install the kit said they would only do it if I ordered the kit through their parts department, which would be at LEAST 30-40 percent markup of what I paid...
Anybody have their dealer install their Truxxx kit??? Especially anybody who had purchased the kit from a seperate 3rd party....Help me out folks!
Re: TRUXXX KIT: need help getting dealer to install to save the warranty!
it only voids the warranty for failures directly related to the lift kit.....right?
I wouldn't think your warranty for your radio is void if you lift the truck.

install the lift yourself and know that almost anything a dealer tells you is total crap.
sorry, but this topic is so tired. the dealers are taking you for a ride.
your warranty will not be void if you install the lift yourself. incidentally, as has been stated thousands (exageration, i know, but it feels like it) of times on this forum, there is no such thing as 'voiding your warranty.' a warrantor can deny an individual claim only if they can prove that the aftermarket part you installed directly caused the failure that you are trying to claim for.

Thats the problem though. The parts of the warranty that will be voided by the lift/larger wheel/tire combo will be the most important part... the DRIVETRAIN!
Even if I randomly have a problem with my transmission, my lift will void the Toyota warranty on it. And, as I have seen COUNTLESS dealerships do in the past, they can tie any warranty issues back to modifications by SOME means...
Perfect example.... I had trouble with my passenger side power window in my Tacoma about 2 years after I bought it. Took it in and they said "We are sorry sir. You upgraded your stereo system which voids any warranties on electrical components."
Ive even heard of people that have upgraded their headlight bulbs and it voided their warranty....

That is when you ask the dealer's service manager why the dealer hasn't sent him to a class on the Magnuson-Moss Act, and then ask him if he would explain that to your lawyer, and to put the refusal to provide warranty work and the reason for doing so in writing. Unless the warranty clearly and conspicuously states that it is voided by the addition of aftermarket parts, the entire warranty is not voided. Further, it is incumbent upon the manufacturer/dealer, to show the addition of the aftermarket parts created the damage to the parts that they are refusing to cover.
The real kicker is that the act also allows the plaintiff to recover damages and costs if they prevail, creating a situation where a competent attorney in the field will possibly be willing to take the case on a contingency basis.
In short, if a dealer decides to play hardball, let them pitch to Reggie Jackson in October. (Hey, I'm old school, but you should get my point)
