Default Alternative to Black Headlight Mod

Because I wanted to avoid leaking / condensation issues with the BHM and the tint film sold on the web is CRAP, I played the safe route and had all my lights professionally smoked at custom paint shop. As you can see, it also diffuses the chrome in the housings. Enjoy the pics and holla at me with any questions:

Simply, SMOOTH AND MURDERED! It looks like you made the right decision. Now for the details please:
  • Did you take the lights off for the detail shop to paint to save money?
  • How much did it cost for all and if possible, separately since I have no fogs?
  • How many shades did they use? Yours look perfect as they are not too dark looking, but definitely SMOKED.
Thanks for the pics! This would save me the time it would take for the headlight mod and also give me something for the back and 3rd brake light.

TK,

a. Yes, take them off yourself to save $$$. Saved me bout $100
b. Well, it ran me $260 for everything. Hopefully it'll be cheaper for you since no foglights.
c. Not sure about how many coats used. I left it totally up to him. I just said my truck is blacked out so use your discretion.

Best part about this whole mod, NO HEADACHES!!

Id like to see some night pics of the front and rear lights in action.
Also if there are any photoshop guys around that could turn that truck silver, that would be cool.

your truck looks awesome. i'd like to do that to mine, but the cops in northern ca can be dicks about stuff like that. because i'm not driving a ricer around i think they might not care as much, but who knows. one of these days i'll get the motivation and the balls to either do the black headlight mod. i'm intrested in how they look at night too. maybe if you could find another tundra around you to compare with.

again, an awesome truck. you did a great job.

I can't tell that it isn't tint like mine. Very similar dark levels. i've had mine tinted for about 8 months and had no problems. I had scratch up against the lenses from time to time but never left a mark. The tint I used was as thick as clearbra which really last.

D10, thanks for the compliments! Yes, that plastic piece in the front was color matched. Could you tell a big difference with the big brake kit? How much did that cost you?

honestly, i couldn't tell you if the big brake kit makes a difference. i bought the truck with them already installed, so i never got to compare the two. they do however attract people to the truck when they see them. i'll let you know how much they were when i can get to the truck again.

It looks really good, but I wouldn't feel comfortable with filmed/painted/smoked headlights and taillights. The BHM is very easy to do without fear of condensation. JMO.
