Default quick exhaust question

i have a 4.7L CrewMax, and all i ever see is exhaust kits for 5.7, is there a real difference in the stock exhaust systems, and what would happen if i put a 5.7 aftermarket exhaust on a 4.7 engine

any and all help is greatly appreciated

Check out Borla. They have been making 4.7L exhausts for a long time. I don't think the 4.7 and 5.7 are compatable. It would be a shame to get an expensive exhaust and it won't fit. DOH!

A system designed and optimized around the 5.7 may not provide optimal results on the 4.7. Bigger tubes / mufflers does not always equate to best performance.

What you'll really want to do is to make sure the length to the muffler flange is nearly exactly the same for each pipe coming off the cat. Otherwise you'll need to do a bit of welding and a maybe even a couple of coke cans to fit it.

When a vendor makes claims of optimization, better performance, increase by XX%,what they have done is reconfigured the off the shelf systems with relocated mounting to make them vehicle specific. Then they break it off in your budget with a price that appears to be worthy of actual R&D
Any 2.25" System designed for a Tundra will bolt to either a 5.7 or 4.7 07/08 Tundra.

I don't doubt it. This would be useful for anyone buying a used system, such as a 4.7 guy who wants one and sees a listing for a 5.7 system. Are you aware of actual cases where cat backs were identical for 4.7 and 5.7 systems? Borla, Corsa, TRD?

JBA has application listings for catback systems that fit both the 4.7 and 5.7 - well at least that's what they claim

I would think a system designed for the 5.7 would be too uncorked for a 4.7, in that you'd sacrifice quite a bit of low end grunt.

My truck runs much better with dual 2.25 inch piping vs dual 2.5 inch, so I can't imagine how much low end you'd give up on a 4.7 Tundra with anything larger than that.

thanks for the debate....i had flowmasters on my gmc sierra, and im tryin to go for a more high peformance sound than just loud pipes, the magnaflows have the dual same side exit, which i would love to have, but it says 5.7, but im just guessing that the stock exhaust on the 4.7 and 5.7 are the same, so it should fit either one *shrug*, and when you check the model numbers the jba and borla are the same for both engines, so i guess the real test is to just do it
again

Concur; my wife noticed the difference in sound going from the the Magnaflow to the Borla...and the Borla on a sc mustang sounds like no other!
