Question Thinking about upgrading...

I have test drove the 5.7 08 Tundra and really loved it. However looking into either buying a 07 or 08 in the next couple years or when ever I find one that is in my price range and has the features I want, or maybe just upgrading my 4.7 with a supercharger for the added power the I want and need.

I have been hearing a lot of complaints about the new tundra bodies not holding up to the elements. Any of you have such complaints, or other cons that I should be looking into before deciding which road to start down?

Thanks

I would buy a used 08 in a few years.....give you time to see if there are body concerns....get the 5.8, you won't be really happy without it...

If you're buying int the next couple of years - might want to pulse the situation then, vice now. However, if you are intent on doing the research early, there are many threads on the "issues" as well as Tundra HQ which has a list is "issues".

The 4.7 in a Gen 1 is quite the power house. I had two previous Gen 1 trucks and never lacked get up and go. You have a well built truck there. If you've had it since 02' you two are well aquainted.

The bigger Gen 2 has advantages over the Gen 1 AC. Deeper bed, taller ride, way bigger cab, and quieter. The 5.7 is an impressive engine and the 6 speed trans is smooth as silk.

Some disadvantages are lack of spin on oil filter, thin lightweight tailgate, more truck to clean/wax, and expensive wiper blades.

There are some great deals happening right now. I've seen 0 down, 0%, 60 months all over the place. If you want something with miles on it, wait for a lease turn in.

Either way you will have a great truck. Maybe save the $$ for a better deal...

I wish I could have waited 1 year and saved $10,000. This sucks for the people that bought early and before gas prices sky rocketed. Maybe the government can bail me out

Sounds like a plan

Honestly though...if I would have waited....I probably would have scored a Duramax instead b/c the prices are so low on trucks today.

So I guess I really can't complain accept I will always WANT a diesel, but only NEED a 1/2 ton and can't justify spending extra money

Don't let me give you the wrong impression. The Tundra is a wonderful truck and the 5.7L is the main reason why it is at the top if you ask me. This is a great truck with an even greater drive system. This is the best vehicle I've ever driven.
