With the group buy done, Ive notice mixed emotions about the Unichip. So Im wondering how many are satisfied with the Unichip and how many are unsatisfied and who just isnt sure? Lets put this out in the open!
I have an Older Unchip, I bought 4 years ago as a back up to my TRD ECU. The TRD ECU finally bit the dust and I installed the Unichip. I now have check engine lights and the boost doesnt kick in until 4000+rpm's. I called Unichip to ask them about a wiring schematic, the tech sent me lots of good info. I was very happy with that, but even tho it is connected correctly I still have a engine light and codes. I then called and asked about having them recalibrate it. It took them a week to return my phone call. They recommended to have someone in my area recalibrate it. There is no one with 4-5 hrs of here, I can not take off during the week. They will not just let me send it in and let them try to recal it. I did not expect it for free and know it will cost $$ to have this done, but they are not interested in helping.
I have seen the UNICHIP run just fine in many vehicles, IMO their customewr service is a little lacking. The product seems reliable when tuned properly.

I voted for yes. There is really no bad effects from the chip, they just were not as good as I was thinking. For those who are wondering my chip is mapped for exhaust and drop in filter.
First off, it is a PITA to install. Its not so much that the unichip harness is to short, but the factory harness seems to short.
The power increase seems ok, not as great as what I was thinking...on either setting.
The gas mileage is better, maybe 2-3 mpg on the highway, but increase in the city was little to none.
One thing I didnt expect that the chip seems to have done is it feels like the truck shifts smoother under normal driving.
All in all, not a bad deal, especially considering I got in on the group buy ($200 off) I am sure something better will come out later, but I wanted to be one of the first to get one. If nothing else I got a nice $600 "Powered by UNICHIP" sticker.
Getting a custom tune really wakes it up, check out my last post in the unichip thread. +24hp and +57tq. Gas mileage has gone up a bit too, just cant say how much. The last tank i got about an extra 20 miles out of it, and i was driving like a @ss the whole tank. I can only imagine how much more id get if i drove normal. Id Highly recomend.

I am interested in an upgraded tune system, but I'm waiting for more competition to hit the market for the new Tundra's. The Unichip sounds good, but its over-priced IMHO.
I decided not to wait for another group buy, and now my truck is at Unichip In Hillsboro Oregon. They are going to have my truck for three days. They are instaling the chip, custom tuining, and doing a little R&D. I cant say anymore then that, until Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "Gettin, loose"

UPDATE !!!!! Monday I called Unichip To ask a couple of questions. I wanted to know If I could purchase a Unichip plug and play, and have a custom tune done right in their shop!!! I was speaking to Michael Timmons, he told me That they don’t normally do custom tunes because of the Time It takes, He recommended a custom tuning shop In Vancouver WA. He Told me their was a three week back order on the chip and if I wanted to order he would put me on the list, I said ok I will order one!!!! Then he asked if he could call me back in a few minutes and I said sure!!! He called back and said I have a proposition for you???????? I said ok lets hear it (LOL) He said they were working on a new map for the 5.7 Tundra ( this is the fuel economy map that the 4.7 guys are getting) and they needed to have a truck for three days To finish putting this map together!!!! He said If I was willing, Unichip would give me $100.00 dollars off the price of the chip, and give me a custom tune for all three maps!!! I asked when do you want the truck? Any way I got the truck back today. The new map has the ability to open the throttle longer and wider for the performance map, or open it less for the economy map!!! I don’t know all the details, but my truck runs like a scalded dog I couldn’t be happier with the results!!!!! I will be reporting back to Unichip on the performance of the third map (if I can force myself to flip that switch over to economy LOL)

for all you people not happy or undecided ,i know it will cost you a few extra bucks, to have it customed tuned. but truthfully & honestly, it will be worth it. it will change you mind. you are already committted, so what is a few more bucks to know for sure, the power increase will exceed the need!
i have only 1 option now, a shop in south miami. which can do the custom tune for me. it was recommended so what the heck, i'll try it myself. i need to set it up and spend 1/2 a day. round trip, but think about the additional potenial i will have on both map's.
maybe 350HP. & 265+HP to the rear wheels. torque maybe 300.
i'm hopeful considering it's a 4.7
but right now i'm very very happy, but if it could be better ,heck why not.

That's great to hear! I have to decided to wait on my custom tune until Unichip releases all of the updates on the tuner. Makes no sense to get a custom tune until they release these updates. Good luck! Sounds like you have one bad a$$ truck
Yeah im wondering the same. Wonder what a stock tundra + unichip puts out so I can tell how much the chip added and how much where due to my other mods. I still cant believe there are people here having doubts.
