Toyota finally did it, they made an American truck! I just don't get it, isn't that what folks wanted...? A real full sized machine? O' wait, you didn't want the built in after the sale BS and the requirement to buy lots of stupid parts that shouldn't be failing on a Toyota...? But you said you wanted a real full sized American truck! Well, you go it! Everyone is doing it these days - brake that wear out quickly etc etc.
I've owned/own many Toyota's, too... Despite the new for Toyota built in BS I still expect this truck will get me home while beating the crap out of it with 10k lbs in tow... well, it might need a few tweaks.
hbonney, I couldn't agree more. Toyota quality just isn't what it used to be with this truck. I have my own theories on why, but that doesn't really matter. I had my own little post in which I complained about a few things a few weeks ago, and there were some who agreed, but some just thought I was b*tching and didn't do my research before buying. I may have spent too much time in that post complaining about VSC/ATRAC, but that's beside the point. The real gist was that I have noticed a great decline in quality from Toyota with this truck, and have already experienced some of what you describe above in just over a month and 1500 miles of ownership. The fact that they are still selling lots of Tundras is not an argument for the truck's quality. I haven't owned Toyotas nearly as long as you have hbonney, but I have owned them long enough to be annoyed by the little things that suck on my new Tundra. Things that should be (and at one time were) basically inexcusable on any Toyota, let alone on (in my case) a $38K truck - such as the dash rattles and chincy weather stripping, etc. I'm talking mostly about the little things that define the quality. No doubt the motor and aesthetics are awesome - no one needs to convince me of that.
Unfortunately, you get people like slackjaw07 who bring nothing to the table except snide remarks. I don't get it. This is a "discussion forum" for Toyota Tundras, and you were on topic with posting legitimate concerns about your truck and Toyota's quality. Slackjaw, if you just have to say something that isn't constructive, why don't you just go ahead and PM me with it, so we don't have to have the whole board read it. mmmkay? Thanks.

Add squeaking power windows.
AC vents that won't hold position.
Having to avoid expansion strips at anything over 65 mph.
Weak AC in anything over 95 degree heat.
Oh well, other manufacturers will take my cash on my next purchase.

I haven't heard about the first two. Have you spoken with a dealership about them?
I have absolutely no problem with any vehicle having issues...as long as Toyota and the dealers are willing to remedy those issue during the warrenty period..
The problem for me comes when Toyota allows individual dealers to determine whether or not they WANT to repair those items on a case by case basis...even if they are known problems with TSB's!
Very disappointing...
My Tailgate is coming apart...they say its cosmetic only.
My Tailgate latch broke (has a TSB), I had to pay for it and put it on myself...in the dealers parking lot!
My dash was sagging...they repaired it.
My plastic panel on drivers side under dash is warped...they first refused to repair...said I must have taken it off (never did) then said the clips were broken..they said they replaced them, charged Toyota and it wasnt repaired when I picked up the truck.
Headlights came aimed super high...one dealer said they werent adjustable, the other said $98 to adjust....I did it myself!
Not dissappointed with the truck...I love it, very disapponted with Toyota and their dealers for not keeping their end of the bargain with those of us that paid hard earned $ for this vehicle.

I need a new word of the month people!
Apart from the door rattles when blasting the 14speaker JBL, and the weak air blower, i have nothing to comment about, regarding the brakes, it would be amazing to get them up to 30000 miles with all the city driving i do (my X-Landcruiser needed new pads every 3500Miles!!! I live in the middle east n i had my truck imported here from the states obviously no warantee nor spare parts!! yes i know its not the smartest thing to do but when i test drove the tundra in the states i found myself putting a downpayment on the truck and selling my 03 Landcruiser!! n as much as i loved that bullet proof landcruiser.. i dont believe i made a mistake in anyway.. i love the tundra to bits.. its hands down the coolest car i have ever owned.. quality is annoying especially for a toyota.. but the tundra in my opinion is far more superior when it comes to nearly everything else!!! I take my truck offroading on the sand dunes nearly every weekend and its never fails to impress me in everyway.. the landcruiser rattled a considerable amount more yet it had nearly 10X the mileage (60000+miles for the landcruiser while the tundra hasn't reached 7 yet).. my only major complaint about the truck is the ground clearance having damaged my aluminium skid plate offroading even with the 3" Toytec lift.. other than that.. its the reason i wake up in time every morning just to drive it lol!! I love it so much that i am considering selling it and buying an 08 Crewmax but with the things i am hearing especially from ppl with relatively high mileage tundras, it maybe worth waiting for the face lift!!!
I agree with the OP. I am currently negotiating a sale on my 2008 CMAX Ltd. I am an avid Toyota loyalist, and was driving a taco before this truck. I will buy Toyota again but just not a Tundra. I still love my Toyotas/Lexus but this one is the first one that leaves me disappointed. Small stuff that I have not seen on my other Toyotas..not worth getting into it..the fanboys come out in droves. Just an honest opinion from someone who has owned alot of Toyotas. I do love the drivetrain, I can say that..I think that seems to surely be up to Toyota quality. Either way keep it..sell it.do what you like...but we all should appreciate the comments, especially from owners.
Sorry to hear about all the problems. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. My RCSB has been troulbe free for the past 11/2 years and 26K on the odometer. No squeaks, rattles, parts coming off, nothing. Just as solid and smooth and quiet as the day I got it. This is the first of 5 new trucks (GM/Chevy) that I've purchased and haven't had any problems or warranty work done.
The only problem on your list that I have had is the roof trim. The dealer replaced it under warranty. I admit that I don't know a lot about the history, but most of this stuff has been attributed to production startup problems in San Antonio.

Bed bounce...got it
Bad brakes... to soon to tell but they do stop the truck and trailer well.
rattles...only the passenger side rear when it is not stowed properly.
Towing powerawesome.
As far as interior looking cheap, don't think so...besides didn't we all look inside before we bought it... or did we and still bought it and just want to add it to the ***** list.
Mayb cuz I have the bench seat I don't feel like I'm in a plastic bubble like the 06 F150 I drive at work occasionally.
Problems are the 03 expedition I got rid of after 13 months...Not even close with the Tundra.

I'm flattered that you would single me out in your post, thank you. I went back and looked at the post I believe you are referring to and I think I'll stick with my original comment that you (and a few others posting in that thread) probably did buy the wrong truck based on the comments you made. That's not a snide remark, that's my honest opinion based on your post and a few others that followed. No name calling, no criticism, just my opinion.
My experience with this truck and perception of it is obviously very different from yours and hbonney's. While far from perfect, it has also been far better and more capable than any other truck/SUV I've owned over the last 25 years. My posts and comments on this forum and others will reflect this fact until such time that my opinion changes.
You may not like or agree with my opinions but as you said, this is a "discussion forum", right? No PM necessary.

2008 Crewmax 4x4... 11,000 miles... no issues whatsoever... I love the truck and have had Toyotas and Hondas my whole life. Last truck was a 2006 Double Cab... loved that one but this is a whole different truck and ten times better. Still have my '89 4runner with 236,000 miles that I drive everyday... Toyota quality is still what it was, theres just more parts in todays vehicles. Bigger truck means more wear on parts and on and on. Different strokes for different folks...
If you don't like it, sell it and buy something that's half as good.
Also when you off road you are prone to a more rattles as things shake you hit harder bumps just tighten things up ! You use your truck in worser conditions than most no the truck not perfect but what truck is Also I agree with slackjaw07 with most of every thing he's said. Alot of this stuff should have been check before warranty was up I quiet sure some of this stuff showed up before 36,000 miles warranty expires 10,000 miles later all theses issues show up come up some of this issues had to be there before warranty was up. My 06 double cab 33,000 miles has rattles and I drive mostly highway miles daily so all truck have rattles so X that off your list you put your truck threw conditions that require more how can I say more check ups than others. There was a thread on the tailgates I'll dig it up they made improve mentson the corners of newer tailgates so they won't or should not break like early model tundra's or early model 07's. So if you guys complaining did a search you would know alot of this stuff !
