Let me start by saying that I am a loyal Toyota owner...I have owned nothing but Toyotas since 1974. I currently own a 77 FJ40 Land Cruiser, 83 FJ60 Land Cruiser, a 1995 T-100 Pickup, and have owned a 2002 Tundra Access Cab and 2004 Tundra Double Cab. My current truck is a 2007 CrewMax Limited 4x4 with TRD duals, 2.5 inch Old Man Emu suspension all around including Dakar rear leaf springs, and 305 x20 BFG Mud Terrain KM2s. I have a little over 46K miles, and I bought the truck new in May of 07. I cannot fault the power train...awsome motor and tranny, super heavy duty rear axles, and it is a great tow rig. However, I am experiencing some problems and my previous 2 Tundras have been completely trouble free. Here are my problems:
1. One of the rubber moldings on the roof is missing...have no idea where or when this occurred.
2. My JBL 6 disc CD player shorted out over some rough dirt roads last week.
3. My brake rotors appears warped now...on long downgrades, even without a trailer, the brakes shudders badly.
4. My dash shakes embarrasingly over bumps and on dirt roads.
5. Rattles in both front doors when driving on dirt roads.
6. Unless cabin air filter is fresh, AC barely adequate for Phoenix summer. I pulled the filter during the hottest days, and AC runs 30% better without filter. Don't recommend this because your evaporator will get clogged with dust.
7. Dreaded bed bounce.
8. Tailgate separating...and I don't even own a quad to put in the bed.
Some things I don't like: Sunroof is much smaller than on my 04 Double Cab, oil filter change is a hassle, need larger fuel tank, interior looks cheap compared to some other trucks, very small wires used on 12 volt outlets (won't power even a 200W inverter for laptop computers), so-so sound quality (when it was till working) from a supposedly Premium JBL system. Finally, too much wheel spin needed for ATRAC to work well off road...would prefer regular mechanical lockers.
I'm trying to love it, but it is the most trouble prone Toyota I've ever owned. All these problems are out of warranty, and Toyota Customer Service has been no help. Maybe Tundras have become too much like other full sized trucks...family members have reported same type of problems with their Chevy and Dodge trucks. I do drive it quite often on some rough dirt roads, but I am having doubts about Toyota quality reputation. I still love the power but......will my next truck be another Tundra? I'm not so sure anymore....

Those are quite a few problems, but a dealership may help with some since thay are known problems (ie: tailgate). A call to the regional toyota rep may help..
Good Luck..

Reason: didn't see the mileage at first..
So are you asking a question or looking for information or what? If the truck isn't what you think it should be sell/trade it and buy something else.
If he had loads of money to waste I'm sure he would have just taken the loss and sold it.
I wouldn't say the truck is exceptional quality. Everyone suffers from the rattles. I'm sure this could be reduced at the expense of adding additional weight in sound deadening material. The tailgate is something that Toyota isn't willing to further reinforce but hey at least they'll replace it with another flimsy one. Their maintenace free transmission idea seems foolish but that's just my opinion.
I think my windshield is leaking. I rinsed my window in the afternoon and got into the truck to find I had to turn on the defrost. My passenger side window whistled in a cross wind.
All that being said what makes me feel better is to tell myself, it's a truck without a real tailgate
some of the problems the op is raising are well known....others, I have not read about....in any event, the warranty is over for many of the issues so a trip to the dealer will involve paying for the repairs......

I don't think any truck should have a simple rubber molding fall off in 18 months, I think a stereo should last longer, and I expected brakes to be trouble free for a couple of years. I bought the truck based on my past experience with Toyotas, and I am simply expressing my disappointment and frustration. Truck is out of warranty (46K miles) and Toyota has basically washed their hands of my problems.

Dependability and longevity are in question with certain parts of this truck.
I would agree with you on breaks, My last truck needed front brake work every 80-90,000 miles and rear breaks were done at 140,000 miles. My crewmax is made to require it every 30,000 with my proof being conversation with dealer.
As previous post said, either we deal and fix out of pocket or sell it and take a HUGE hit on resale or trade in.
I would recommend to fix brakes and all little stuff yourself and keep it.
I would agree that this truck could have been perfect if they didn't cheapen certain parts and by cutting certain corners, us first buyers of 07 trucks paid top dollar with belief of quality, IN WHICH TOYOTA WAS ASHAMED OF.
They were ashamed, but we paid the price.

The little stuff can get pretty costly....did you know that one piece of rubber molding on the roof is over $60.00....I found a replacement stereo on ebay for $180.00 (I know, I know, I should upgraded with aftermarket stereo) If I had to buy it from the dealer, it would have been $800. I'm not planning on selling it, I'm just venting......

I have many of the same problems (#3, 4, 5, 6 and 7). The quality just isn't quite up to par as my wife's '04 Sequoia. The rattles (over rough roads) and weak AC is what kills me the most. BUT, I still absolutely love the truck. I just try to live in my perfect world and not think of its faults.
I've heard some people say that their A/C blows insanely cold, but I can only rate mine as fairly good. I know that some Tacoma owners found that their freon was under-filled from the dealership. I wonder if that's the problem with some of ours?
what i get from what he is saying, is TOYOTA even though it is the 1st year of the brand new truck of the year, ba ba ba ...
has alot of issue's.
especially for a toyota tundra!
what i don't get is why are people knowing there are many issue's continueing to buy the truck, especially the left over's. no matter what they are going off, isn't enough for all the headaches.
maybe 2009's will be better or maybe 2010.
or maybe they really don't know about this web site forum. if they did, i wonder how many would have still gone ahead and bought a gen2 tundra?

Many have vented on what they thought was a better quality product and the rest shot them down on their thoughts and views and calling them trolls, or they don't really own a desert sand mica crewmax with leather with 5.7, towing package with 4.30 rearend, retrax cover etc. I am referring to myself of course.
I like truck too, but I have to supper glue certain plastic pieces on metal so they wont fly off.
So you see you are not alone, but when you mention problems you know people go out to look at same area of their truck for comparison to make sure they don't have same problems.
What are they afraid off, Tundras are already selling for same as domestics, I SHOULD HAVE WAITED A YEAR to get additional 4-5,000$ savings!!!
I've been wanting this truck for over a year now. I was looking toward getting an 2008 crewmax SR5 5.7. Does that truck have all the same problems and the first edition? 2007?
I have a 2008 SR5 Crewmax 5.7 TRD and the only issue I can relate to is the rattling of the doors. Its those damn little storage spaces below the window switches. The doors on them rattle, so I added a little square of rubber to make the door fit snug and no more rattle. So far the truck is working out great for me.....and I am coming from a 2004 TRD Double Cab SR5.
