This is a discussion thread titled "UPDATE: Broke my F N window", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Like I said. I was loading stuff Ike left me with into the back of my truck and when I went to close the tailgate I pushed something up into the pass. side back section of my window. SOOOOOOOOO mad at myself for not being more careful. Dealer quote was almost 600.00. Found local shop that will do it for 290.00 but its an aftermarket window not yota. Has anyone had any good or bad luck with non oem replacement windows. Thanks.

wow even though it's double the price they will have record that you brough it in and if anything didn't work right they will fix it for you. You take the chance for none Toyota and none OEM fix on this and who knows what this place will do to the window. if you know what i mean.
The glass all has to meet DOT specs so that's not an issue. The dealer would probably have to send it out to a glass shop anyway, so if its a good shop it's no different. The only question is how well the can match the OEM window tint.

Lots of opinions about glass replacemenmt...ive heard that the glass is basically all the same, its generally an installation and warrenty that makes the difference in what shop you choose... i imagine the warrenty is all the same

auto glass is what i do for a living. Your truck is new enough that when you go to make an insurance claim you can demand an oem slider. Then all you would responsible for is paying your deductible. Make sure you go to a good company The field is full of hacks and people looking to make a quick buck. hope this helps!
We have had a couple of windshields crack on other vehicles and the dealers prices are outrageous. The Subaru dealer wanted almost $800 for the WRX windshield for my son's car. He found a glass company that came to the house and did it for less than $300. That was 1 1/2 years ago and he has had no problems with it since it was installed. Like it was said earlier, all glass has to meet certain specifications so you should be good there and the dealers probably contract glass companies to come in and replace the glass then jack up the price.
Well got the new aftermarket window put in today. I liked the OEM better but thats a given. Over all it looks good. I put a pic of the broken glass too. After a 10% off online discount it came out to be 250, a lot better than the 500 from dealer and that was just the glass no install.

For the price, it looks solid. I bet you're glad that didn't break all over your rear seat! My buddy shoved a bed into his bed and I guess the boxspring shattered his entire window lol. He still has pieces of glass in his truck.

Did you check with your insurance company to see if you have a glass buyback deductable? Farmers has a $100 replacement deducable that covers all the windows and takes care of rock chips. Only costs me $14.00 per 6 months. I get a new windshield every spring.

for the price, did they use the same molding? I've had problems with folks who try to re-use the molding, but then it could have been my particular installer. Now days, for an extra $50, I buy the new trim.
