Thought that it would be ok, but on my way home that night, about 9:45, started to feel a clunk at take off. Called them the next day to schedule an appt. and took it in for a TSB on the propellar shaft. They replaced but no fix. Took it back in the following day and test drove another as they said that all 4X4's did this. The others did not. They then said, after a ride along, that the transmission was bad and replaced. This also did not fix. They then asked that I bring it in and have the drive shaft pulled and greased since there was metal to metal only and that could be the cause. This was no help either. They now, supposedly, are getting one of the designers of the gen 2 Tundra to come down and take a look at it. I am in limbo to thinking that I may have a lemon since I have some buddies with the same truck but they do not have the problem. Wish they would not have screwed up the paperwork since the rest of the truck is great or could just fix the problem.
Sounds similar to my situation. Although I did not have my trans replaced or driveshaft greased. The guy from Toyota they are going to have come out and look at it is most likely a FST (Factory Service Technician). One of them looked at my truck too, but nothing was done. Hopefully you'll have better luck. Also, make them aware that there are many other trucks with this same problem. Please keep us posted on what they do for you. Good Luck.

Diddo, two drives shafts and each one is worse. They need to fix this problem. Some of us are running out of time for mileage.

So no luck yet huh. A look on the bright side, my clunk/thud feeling seems to be less with the cooler weather, but as soon as it heats up the dreaded clunk is back. I don't look forward to coming to a stop or accelerating from a stop because I will feel the clunk.

had my drive shaft replaced. same sensation when accelerating from a stop...a slight "nudge" like things are tightening up...it all happens within a second and like DJM said it has lessened with colder weather. Had a dealer mechanic ride in it today and he said he somewhat gets what im talking about, and will talk to his service mgr on moving things along. its just so damn annoying to have to expect this at every 3 or 4 stop and goes. any new info on this would be great.

Not sure if mine is the same, but earlier in the week I noticed a small drip for my driveshaft so I took it in. Dealer replaced the driveshaft and said there was a TSB on it. Now after coming to a stop I feel a small shudder. Took it back in today to make sure the shaft was properly replaced and they told me the shudder is normal and will go away as the piece breaks in. I dont think that holds much water but we'll see.

Thanks for everyone's responses, please help keep this thread updated.
I had filed a complaint with Toyota and a claims person called me a week later and after talking to him for only a few minutes, he said there is no problem and everything is fine and he is closing the case.
He said if I don't agree with him, the only thing I can do is go to arbitration with Toyota.
He sent me the paperwork and I just sent it out a few days ago.
We'll see what happens.
Now with the new driveshaft it's clunking even louder. pisses me off.
Also, had brake shudder when firm braking, they installed new rotors and pads, working great now but the truck has only 15,000 miles and mostly highway miles.
I pray everythings worked out by the time the warranty expires.

I everyone with this problem would please call Toyota and go to arbitration, I'm sure eventually things would get settled either by fixing it or compensating us somehow.

Arbitration? I asked about that and they said that since I live in CA, my only option is to file a lemon law lawsuit! What is this form you have? I should get one.

Same thing. I love the way my truck feels when I get in it in the morning. After a few stop and go's, the clunk is there and it's back to .... !

Thanks for all the responses,
Haven't paid too much attention thiss weekend about it because of the fires. I live in Anaheim Hills and am a realtor in Yorba Linda.
But anyways, I don't have the letter anymore, after evacuating, everything is all over the place now. Will try to find it.
Just call Toyota of Orange and talk to the shop foreman DAN STEEGE and ask him to help you out.

Unfortunatly after this weekends fires and being evacuated, I loaded up my truck with everything important and I cannot find the paperwork now.
I will post the paperwork when they send me more info, all they sent me so far was an application to go to arbitration.

Here's a video from my helmet cam leaving my driveway with the truck in the background and the fire

Here's another video sitting on the overpass of the 241 toll road to the 91 freeway and the RV park burning up.

I'm glad someone is pursuing this known issue with these trucks. By the way, what are you trying or wanting to achieve by going to arbitration? Are you trying to get Toyota to buy back your truck? Reimbursment for something?

On another note, I'm curious to know just how many of these trucks have this problem. I think it is a problem if you have the 5.7 and 4WD. I wonder if I went to the dealer and test drove some trucks, just how many wouldhave the same symptoms.

Keep us updated Jasper. Good work!
