Re: Transmission Clunk, Driveshaft Thump, Worse After Propeller Shaft Replaced,
I just took my 08 tundra which I bought new 5 months ago. It has 5k miles and has clunked since new. I just took it in and they did the Drive shaft TSB I drove 15 miles mostly city driving and no clunk. Mine is a 5.7 DC 4x4. I really am enjoying being Clunk-Less I hope it lasts.
Re: Transmission Clunk, Driveshaft Thump, Worse After Propeller Shaft Replaced,
I hope it lasts for you too but i'm guessing it won't. I hate the clunk and i've had the drive shaft replaced and the slip yoke greased twice. The grease they used kept it clunk free for less than 1,000 miles. I'm thinking about taking it apart myself and using the dupont grease as posted above.

Re: Transmission Clunk, Driveshaft Thump, Worse After Propeller Shaft Replaced,
Hey guys, some of the posts discuss a cluck when downshifting at slower speeds.... Mine is doing this too... after the driveshaft TSB being performed.
I also noticed there is a TSB on the Torque Converter lockup not disengaging properly. I may take mine in for this to see if it applies. Mine seems much more like the torque converter problem now that the driveshaft issue is cleared up.

Greasing the slip yoke is a patch.... and it goes beyond just our Tundra's.... Taco's have had it for awhile undoubtably.... so has my sitster's LX 470 and latest LX570....
I believe it's a tolerance, or design error....
I'm personally floored that it's a slip yoke issue, as it feels like more of a proper diff shimming issue, but that's undoubtably not the case...
I have noticed less of it since it's been colder lately...
Re: Transmission Clunk, Driveshaft Thump, Worse After Propeller Shaft Replaced,
You're right...my 2001 4wd tacoma had the same issue but it did at least have a grease zerk for the slilp yoke. Fill it full of grease and it was clunk free for a short time. Of course all that grease ended up being slung everywhere under the truck. That being said, I also don't understand why Toyota hasn't figured out its a design error. From what i've been told during all my calls to corporate they certainly seem aware of it so why not correct the issue??
