This is a discussion thread titled "Clearance between Upper A-Arm and tires", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I recently installed a set of Nitto Terra Grappler A/T's 305/55/20's on my stock LTD 20" Alloys after installing a ReadyLift 2.4 Inch leveling Kit. I have about 2mm of clearance (about the width of a car key can pass through) between my upper A-arms and the tires. Geometrically and mechanically, they look like they'll never come in contact. Anyone else notice this with similar configurations? Should I consider wheel spacers? Thanks.

I meant the narrow width, not the width of the key, I guess you can say depth?

The thickness of a key sure isn't very much. Tires tend to grow taller and narrower at speed, so I guess it depends on the tire itself. I would be concerned if contact would be possible if a tire was low on air pressure and started "squirming" around. I'm not an expert, but it sounds a little tight.
I have the BFGs in the bed of my truck to be installed (trd wheels) on Saturday and I was worried about the exact same thing. They will be going on the trd wheels. The 2wd I have right now with steel wheels and bridgestone tires only have maybe 3/4 of an inch at most as it is. I was especially concerned when I get in some mud if it would scrape right on the suspension? mxsjw, you havent had any issues?
Discount Tire put'em at 35 psi all the way around. How will 45 psi affect the ride, handling, MPG, etc...?
I run 50psi in mine, the ride is a bit stiffer, steering is more sensitive, and MPG's were increased by about 1 mpg.
2mm is not much clearance, but if it doesn't hit, I wouldn't worry, but I'd keep an eye on it from time to time.
Keep in mind, the bottom of the tire will always be a bit wider than the top, unless it leaves the ground.

By increasing air pressure a little, I would imagine it would space out the bulge in the tire and the A Arm a little, not by much but any little bit will probably help. I get mine on tomorrow and can provide better input then.

Are your tires showing any premature wear on the middle of the tread with your PSI that high? Are you also running 50 psi on all four, or does it make a difference if the rear is less (less sprung wieght)? Thanks.

No premature wear at all, they are actually wearing better than I expected. I rotate them every 5000 miles.
Yes, 50 on all 4, I suppose less in the back may help a bit with the ride, but I haul stuff quite a bit so I don't want to have to adjust psi all the time and I've also added overload springs (supersprings) so my rear is already a bit stiffer than most anyway...did that kin
