Want to Upgrade Tires....need to see pics of yours
Would love to see some Tundra's with their Stock 18" rims and some meaty tires on um....maybe if you have a leveling kit too. What to see what it would look like. Was thinking about getting some custom rims, but thinking maybe i dont' need too, maybe just some meaty tires and a leveling kit will turn my "pick-up" into a "Truck" if you know what i mean. Please share any pics or ideas you might have....thanks
Re: Want to Upgrate Tires....need to see pics of yours
I just had these put on... Michelin LTX AT/2. This is my second set in a couple weeks. The first set was an "E" metric tire and it was like they were filled with concrete. Michelin switched them out for me with a "P" metric tire and they are smooth as silk. I'm very happy with them so far. On the street they ride very nice and are surprisingly quiet. I had them on the beach at high tide yesterday and they handled just fine and didnt spin once... even through some really sketchy spots.
Odds are they will never see snow, but they have good ratings for snow, sand and water. They have a nice bite on the outside edge but a good street pattern in the center. On these I decided to keep the black wall out, I'm liking the look of it alot.
I didnt go up in size, I just put on the same size as the door calls for..... 275- 65/18. I also have the 2" Tuff Country lift on the front.

Hey Jumbo Jet....what pressure are you running in your AT2's? I just put on a set of Michelin LTX A/S's last week...it was a toss-up between the AT2's and the A/S. I seldom go off road and we never get snow, so I went with the A/S. Their ratings were pretty similar. I am running 40psi in mine and will up it to 44 when I hookup my travel trailer.
What tire did you have that you didn't like? I was also thinking of a "E" rated tire but was concerned about the ride and noise from an "E" tire.
My stock Bridgestones only lasted 29k miles...was glad to be rid of them...

Jumbo Jet,
Thanks for the really great pictures of your tires!
I am counting the days till I can shed my stock 255/70-18 rubber and go with the A/T2 in the P275/65-18 size. I have been a happy user of Michelin products in the past and your pictures have got me chomping at the bit... I only have about 6000 miles on my truck at the moment and I might just have to go to a secluded spot and light up my tires and hasten the process!

.
I'm running 30psi in the fronts and 33 in the rears...... thats what the door calls for so I'm going with that.
I had the same exact LTX AT/2 but in an "E" metric tire and they were an awful ride. They were like riding on concrete. I have the "P" metrics now and they are great..... no complaints so far. If I could give any advice on here....... dont get the "E" metric tires!

Hey Glenn,
I was counting the days till my stock BFG's wore out too. I was lucky enough to have a piece of sharp road debris to help me speed up the process. We only run Michelin's in our house...... they are worth every penny

Here are some pics of Toyo M/T 285/75 on stock rims. Just remove the small mud flap toward the front of the wheel well and trim skid plate. It will only slighty rub at full turn, no big deal, not a problem. I have 3" leveling kit.

The tire guy who did my tires thought the pressures on the sticker were a bit too low. The maximum load rating of 2469 lbs for the A/S is at 44psi cold. He said I could drop it a few pounds when I am driving below maximum load.
The lower pressures will give you a smoother ride, but I would be concerned about excessive tread wear.
Just remember to reset your TPMS after any pressure change........

When putting bigger tires on, do you have to zero-calibrate the vsc system or something? I have no idea what "zero-calibrate" even means, I just remember it from somewhere.
