TA KO is the best truck tire I have ever owned. I see at least 30 trucks a day with TA KO's...Not so much with Toyo's. They also handle like sporty tires and have awesome wear. I've heard of people getting 50k miles out of these TA KO's if you rotate em and take care of them.

My BFGs were half worn after 20K miles. A lot of chunks missing from rock crawling, but overall good off-road performance. Sucked in snow and ice despite snowflake rating. Toyos have been better for me so far, but as I said in my signature I will be looking for wider as well as taller if I still have the Tundra when the Toyos wear out. The Toyos are out-performing the BFGs off road; will be taking them in the snow over the holidays.

I don't think the Toyo AT's are great offroad. MT's are good but not AT's. I think the KO's beat the Toyo AT's offroad for sure.

...Don't think those Toyo AT's I had would stand up to 30 punctures by nails either...

You had Toyos on your Tundra at one time, but for how long? I had the AT KOs for 20K miles, and now the Toyo ATs for 15K miles.

On the same trails, same Tundra, I have had less slippage with the Toyos than I did with the AT KOs. The BFGs were good initially, but got slicker and slipped more with miles. After 15K miles the Toyos are still gripping like new. I agree with you MTs would be better yet off-road, but not as quiet as either BFG or Toyo AT.

Regarding nails: BFG Rugged Trails on my last truck were terrible, so I didn't even give them a chance on the Tundra. In 20K miles I had three nail punctures on the BFG AT KOs, but none resulted in a rapid air loss like I had before with Rugged Trails. The first two were repairable, the third was not, so I took advantage of the opportunity to go with the taller Toyos for more ground clearance. In 15K miles I've taken two nails in the Toyos, but neither penetrated enough to require repair.

You were indeed fortunate with your 30-nail fiasco. How long were they? If they were shorter than the tread depth then any tire would have survived.

Oh man, you guys are no help! One guy says Toyos are better, the other BFG. I know its all a matter of personal experience though. I do however see more bad reviews of BFG's than I do of Toyos. Still not making my decision any easier.

You need to consider your usage, whether the reviewer has used both tires on the same vehicle in the same conditions, and check other sites and local sources besides just this one.

When I first went with the AT KO it was because they were popular and had a size I could use. They are definitely better than Rugged Trails.

Having had both for almost the same amount of time on the same truck, the Toyos have proven better than the AT KOs for me. I'm still going wider as well as taller when the Toyos are shot, which looks like will take awhile because they are wearing very well.

The poor performance in snow and ice, as well as uneven wear and loss of traction with age will prevent me from buying AT KOs again. I don't have any red flags on the Toyos yet; their 35x12.50x18 is on my short list for next time around if I can get it to fit on the stock wheel (it might be too wide).

I'm following this thread pretty closely as I am interested in the Toyo's too.

I had the BFG A/T's on my K5 Blazer. They were ok offroad. They were also near impossible to balance and shook pretty bad at highway speeds.

I go on a few wheeling trips every year with other offroad clubs and have seen many different tires in action. Most that use the BFG's on a daily driver have problems because they chunk pretty easily on the trails. I'm talking about real offroading and not an occasional romp
in the mud. Most tires will see some degree of damage. Some more than others. I can say that I have never seen a tire shred quicker than a Cooper STT M/T. I watched Gadget from URD tear up four tires on one obstacle!

I don't know much about the Toyos. It seems that I only really see them on street driven vehicles. I'm picking up my OME lift today and will be hopefully installing it as well. I would love to go with the Toyos, but I'm a little concerned about rubbing on compression.

I wish someone had a 285-70-18..........

I agree, I think it would be the perfect size, for stock rims at least.

My personal experience plus friends I off-road with confirms the BFGs lose chunks way more than the Toyos.

The 285/75/18 will fit best with a 2-3 inch lift. My 4-inch lift pulls the tires in even more, and they still clear even at full lock provided you bend the skid plate up.

Default Re: Toyo 285/75/18 - follow ups?

Every truck is built a little different. My 285/75's rubbed a LOT on the front of the wheel wells and on the skidplate. Annoyed me all the time. Even after several mods to the front of the wheel wells and skidplate. To prove that trucks are built different just look in that other thread where jeffe posted the pics of the 35" Procomp AT's that had NO RUB without any lift. I can't stand when things don't fit right so I swapped to the TA KO's and they ride amazing on the highway at 70mph too.

The trick is to maximize your caster to eliminate rubbing in the front of the wheel well. Has the added benefit of better straight line stability.

For a 37" tire, though, I am pretty sure you need a 6" lift.

You and I were both lucky in that we had no ride issues with the TA KOs; others seem to have balance issues that I suspect are as much a function of their tire shop as the tire itself.

Front Susp: Stock coilovers, 4" lift (http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forum...6-4-inch-lift/), swapped extra spacers for Bilstein 5100s on lowest setting, wheel well height still 41.5." Rear Susp: ProComp ES3000 #326510 (2.25" taller than stock), 1.25" blocks plus PRG mini-pack (http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forum...and-new-truck/) gives 2.25" total lift, parking brake cable bracket spacers, wheel well height 43." Front diff and rear ds drop; trailer hitch electrical harness tucked up above bumper. After 20K miles swapped 305/65/18 BFG AT for 285/75/18 Toyo AT, still on stock 18x8x60 offset TRD wheels, about 1/8" clearance to sway bar. Like the extra height but miss the width. Next time either 305/70/, 295/70, or 35x12.50/18. Added 5th 285/75/18 Toyo AT as spare. Bed Bounce: Stiffer E-tires are worse than stock P-metric; biggest improvement from PRG mini-pack, slight improvement from shocks. Still a stiff ride but tolerable now. Best things about this truck: 5.7 and transmission, interior size and comfort, very quiet at high speed. Worst things about this truck: bed bounce, no VSC in 4wd, mileage sucks above 70.

Funny you should mention that. 18 years ago (geez is it that long already?) I used to work at a tire shop and wed put on BFG's and had the same problem. Very common to have balancing problems with the KO's. Its one of the reasons Im hesitant to get them.
