Question Opinions on General Grabber AT2's?

Is anyone running the General Grabber AT2's.

This is the tire they're putting on the Ivan "Ironman" Stewart Special Edition Tundra, so I assume they're pretty good. They are snowflake rated and have a pretty aggressive tread. They don't have a lot of sizes in the 18" and 20" range yet. I would probably go with the 275/70R18 size.

How do they compare to the BFG All Terrain A/T KO's and the Goodyear SilentArmour's ?

They seem like they're pretty good and aggressive.

General Grabber AT2 Tires - All Terrain Tire Reviews

Very simliar to the BFG AT T/A KOs in terms of how they look.

I had mine in mud today in ruts so deep that my Ranch Hand was pushing the mud. Got stuck about 15 feet in in 2wd. Put 'er in 4wd and the tires just gave a little spin and off to the races we went. Backed up in 4wd without much of a problem and then went back forward lol.

Buddy's Silverado barely went anywhere in 2wd and was spinning a lot to clean his tires in 4wd and actually make it out without getting stuck.

My vote is for the BFGs but if those are a lot cheaper, they don't seem half bad at all. Looks comparable to the Procomps as well.

Oh, and if you do a lot of heavy payload and towing, or do a lot of rocks where sidewall damage could occur, those are a 2 ply sidewall (according to that site) and the BFGs are 3 ply.

What type of driving do you typically do? How often are you in the mud? Slick or sticky? Are you relying on them for snow (snowflake rated so not biggie there, so are the BFGs)? Payload or towing? Heavy?

I've personally used a brand new set of GY Silent Armors in the snow and they were great. Can't wait to try out my BFGs this winter.

Most of the time the truck is not loaded or towing. Occasionally I'll tow a fairly heavy stock trailer (It could have anything in it - though rarely more than 2 horses). I like doing mild off-road in the mountains and at least once a year I take the truck to the Utah desert where it is mostly sandy, with some rocks. We get plenty of snow, so I want something that will be good in snow and icy conditions, and good off road when I need it.

I don't hit much mud, but it does happen. Interestingly, one complaint I hear about the BFG's is that they are not very good in mud. Though I suppose the Grabbers can't be much better. Realistically, I do most of my driving on pavement, so I don't want noisy MT's.

I like the BFG's but want to weigh all my options before I buy. I wish they made a 285/70R18. To me, that would be an ideal size.

Yeah, I know what ya mean. Sounds like the Grabbers would fit your need. Same as the KOs though.

I've heard from multiple people that the KOs have "10% less traction than the MT." I think that 10% less traction comes from the fact that they're not an open tread design.

The only ATs that will be better than the KO in the mud are the Cooper Discoverer ST. No tire shop around here recommends the STs most likely b/c the KOs are more of a money maker.

Also, I'm sure that's why you're hearing the KOs suck in the mud - because EVERYBODY and their brother has 'em.

If I could get my camera charged, I'd take a pic of my truck for ya with the current mud on it. I can't find my camera charger though and my actual phone has some major water damage to it.

Here's a pic of the 285/65/18s though on my truck with the last time I took pics in the mud:

That pit ^ equals this mud:

and then the whole truck from a different time:

Also, I made it through that pit in 2wd without much wheelspin. When I backed into it, I made it about a foot and put it in 4wd. If I have to spin it a lot, I'll just use 4wd. No reason in being an idiot lol. Tread lightly is always the best option (even though I'm not a liberal hippy earth hugger).

I can't say how they do on a new model Tundra ( I only have 2k on my 08' CM), but I had these tires on my 2000 Tundra in 285/75/16 w/3" lift and they were great in rain, snow and mud within reason. I sold this truck to a friend's son and he says they are still wearing good. I bought a second set a year later to replace the tires on my 97 Taco and sofar about 6k miles no complaints. I think they are a bargain for the money.

Do-It-Yourself Re: Opinions on General Grabber AT2's?

Had GAT2's on my old truck, excellent traction all around. They did fantastic in deep snow. They replaced old BFG AT's, and I had no regrets.

I was going to buy a set for my Tundra, but I got a smoke'n deal on Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors, which I've been very pleased with so far. Cant wait to try'em in the snow.

Since I'm finding the Grabber AT2's priced considerably lower than the BFG All-Terrains, I'm seriously considering them as an option. I just wish they made a 305/65R18.

I ran the Cooper Discoverer ATRs on my 03 Tacoma and those things were awesome. It helped that the Taco was pretty light, but I never got stuck in deep mud and they were great on the street. Never really did any rock crawling though. Cooper Tires - -

And on my truck before that, a 95 Toyota 4x4 pickup, I ran BFG MTs, and got about 40K miles out of them before I sold the truck (and they still had plenty of life left). They were also excellent in deep snow. Then the Jeep I had before that I had Bridgestone Dueler MTs and those were excellent as well.

Thumbs up Re: Opinions on General Grabber AT2's?

I replaced a set of BFG AT's with the Grabber AT2's due to the big price increase in the BFG's. I have been running the Grabber's for two winters going into the third and there performance on ice, snow and mud has been much better than the BFG's. The Grabber's tread wear seems to be better than the BFG's
