Just like to ask a questions on those of you that have lowered your crewmax 4x4, i'm thinking of doing it but not sure of a few things, here it goes:
-what kit do you have and how much did you lower.
-how does the truck handle, ie. ride, feedback on steering wheel on bumps.
-any clearance problem going over speed bumps or driveway.
-any problem with towing, i tow a 7000lb trailer.
-tire clearance, would it have enough clearance for 305/45r22 tires on 22x10 wheel.
Looking forward for your answers and any other answers for the questions i might have missed, thanks.
My buddy had a 4x4 s-10 and lowered it, then put a turbo on it. It was a total sleeper and he would waste people with 4x4 traction vs 2wd. Sure it may not make sense for everyone, but I will never buy a 2wd truck for a whole host of reasons. That and lowered crewmaxes look pretty cool I think.
I'm lowering my truck because it never goes off road, i got a 4x4 just for the added traction, it's getting a TRD supercharger & i want it to handle like a sport sedan, i need a truck and i do not want to compromise power & handling. As far as towing goes, the tundraracing kit states that no change in tow capacity as it uses the same rear springs. Slamdyota, what kit did you go with & how low did you go, do you have any bigger pictures of your truck? it looks awesome from the small picture in your avatar, what size wheels and tires do you have?
i say if you are gonna lower it go with the ground force kit it is a 2/4 drop with leafs and you will have no problem running the 305-45-22 tires also you dont have to flip the rearend since its a leaf replacement and not a flipkit.

You can have a lowered 4X4 hot rod pickup but how can you go around using your traction? You must mean in the snow where there is give and it won't ruin things running it in 4WD on grippy pavement where there is little give. Or the track in a straight line perhaps. Honestly awesome traction can be had with some rubber in the rear with the soft suspension of these pickups with only 2WD but I'm sure you have a lot more tire spin with your long wheelbase than I do in 2WD.

I'll be lowering my 4X4 DC as soon as I'm home for more than a week or two. I don't tow a trailor but I can still got my truck to bottom out when I hit some frost heaves at about 85-90 with my quad in the back. Airbags should solve that. I think the only kit you can get for a 4X4 is SOS. I don't want to lower it too much, I just want it to sit level, make it easier to load my toys and easier to get in and out of for girls with short legs. These trucks sit high. I realize it isn't for everyone but for us that have 4X4 out of necessity, it can make a lot of sense.
I have a ground force kit on my 2wd and I would not recomment towing 7k with that unless you have also added an air bag helper. The TRD kit which is quite the same drops the tow rating rating to 5k so I would assume the GF kit would be similar. Your best bet would be the kit from SOS or the Mcgaughys 2-4 kit. The SOS kit is the only one I have seen that offers a rear flip with less than 4 inch rear drop or you can go extreme with a 6 inch. Mchaughy's & Bell tech flip kits start at 4 inch and can go down 6. Even with the flip kits some support may still be needed because you are bringing the axle housing closer to the frame and therefore loosing travel distance.

one of my friends has a crewmax with the mcgaughys kit and i wouldnt try to haul hardly anything with that kit installed,he brought over a table and chair set and a love seat and i think he was hitting in the rear,he did say he went and got motorcycle with a trailer and i did ok with that, dont know about the sos kit had it on my xrunner and i bottomed out in the rear alot but the rear of these trucks are alot diffferent than the tacoma.
