Default Throttle Body Screen Removal?

I don't see any good reason toyota put a screen/gasket behind the throttle body on the 5.7? It seems to me that the only viable reason for this is to keep debris out of the engine unless it is a minor air flow restrictor? Before you claim BS on the restrictor idea...the 3.4 had a "D" shaped throttle body gasket that restricted airflow between the tb and the intake.

The screen is not very restrictive so removing it would probably not be worth more than a few percent of peak power, but if it's free power, then why not have it all!

Maybe it is some sort or air diffuser designed for the intake to get more consistant air flow to all cylinders???

I know that I took a picture a number of months ago...lets see if I can dig it up.

Others input is appreciated.

in the south, it is not uncommon for mice to chew through the air filter and nest in the intake tube. if the screen is not in the throttle body, it would be pretty easy for a critter to crawl into the motor, and that would not be good.

pretty much a last line of defense. tons of different things can happen. a paperfilter could come apart. it could fail to seal properly. u could have an accident and crack the intake tube or housing and debris could get sucked in past it until u turned the truck off. the truck can be running while being worked on etc w/o the housing in place. pretty much keeps the possibilty of stuff sucking/dropping/crawling in there from happening and its not going to make any difference in airflow or anything but if u wanna remove it, go for it. its ur truck not mine.

Here we go with the 2002 Vette didnt have a screened TB from production and therefore its a must do mod for max airflow

People need to understand there are no gains from intake mods on this Toyota 5.7 P E R I O D !

I too am familiar with the lsx engine and the supposed reason for the "screen" was for a more accurate maf reading at idle...I took mine out and had no ill effects...I doubt that it made much difference but mine was removed to remove any possible restriction.

If this is true then why did I gain mph from my airraid setup??? I don't buy your undocumented statement until I see independent dyno graphs proving this...you need some actual data before many of us believe what you have to say! There may be fairly small gains with an air intake on the stock ecu, but there are gains. I'd venture to guess that with proper tuning there is a reasonable amount of power to be had.

Why do you need to respond so negative...I like many others are trying to learn something here.
