CB radio, where is yours and how did you mount the antenna?
Just picked up my 08 tundra double cab 5.7 yesterday and now I am looking for a place to mount a CB radio and a good place to mount the antenna. Now I will be adding a camper shell in the future so I have to keep that in mind.
Re: CB radio, where is yours and how did you mount the antenna?
Not many options. Mine is on the driver's side of the center console and the antenna is mounted on the front edge of the rear door. Here is one of several threads on the subject: Where is your CB radio mounted?
Here's where mine is:

Yeah, I know. The thread that I posted the link to has all of those responses in it.

thats because you don't realize what your missing, or NEVER travel. On a trip its way better than a radar detector, and I always know where traffic jams or accidents are well before I get there.
Re: CB radio, where is yours and how did you mount the antenna?
I mounted a Yaesu ham radio in my 2003 Tundra. It is a 2 piece...I put the front face on the console...the rest of the radio is under the passenger seat. I mounted the antenna on the roof, just behind the dome light and hidden brace. This gives good support and easy to reach after dropping the light. I threaded the cable down through the post behind the passenger seat, under the carpet to the radio. Beware, my very short (12 in) antenna does wack the signs in the parking garage.

Hey Yaesu buddy!
I'll probably end up getting a 3 or 4 band mobile rig from them, i've only got a HT right now. I was planning on putting the radio under a front seat in my '07, running a permanent drill through mount out the center of the roof and mounting an external speaker under the center grille since I don't have a DVD system.
I still don't know exactly where to put the face plate, though.

I did a similar install with my 2 piece scanner, the remote head is on the console under the climate controls....
The base is in the center console, its the unit that says "searching for satellite" in the photo below...
Here is what I reccomend if you do not have a remote head option...
My remote head is bolted with a bracket to the storage bin / aux power - cig lighter console section. If you don't have a remote head I do believe you can fit a standard Double Din unit (cb / radio) in that location. The console section is easy to remove, simply remove the cigarette lighter, use both the cig ligher and aux power outlets as grab holds and pull with significant force straight out. I'ts attached with pressure clips and will pop out, but does take quite a bit of force.
Once in there, there is power for your CB via the AUX outlet or cigarette ligher. FYI... The aux power feed stays on for 2 hours after the ignition is swiched off, while the cig lighter turns off with the ignition. I used the cig ligher power feed so I wouldnt drain my battery and simply disabled the feed to the cig lighter itself to eliminate the possibility of blowing the fuse. If you must have the cig lighter then use aux power or route new power to the area.
This location works really well in my opinion because it does not interfere with anything, including the small storage area under the unit. Controls and display are easily accessible and visible.
I have a unique rack on the back of my truck to which I mounted my scanner antennas....
I realize my antenna solution will most likely not apply to your scenario, but I thought i would share.
From what I understand CB antennas are different than scanner antennas and require a ground plane to transmit. If I remember correctly this is a grounded metal flat surface area of at least several square feet at which the antenna should be centrally located. The roof is supposed to be the best spot.
If you do not talk over CB you should consider a scanner instead as I've installed. I can listed to CB frequencies with this unit, however I primarily use it to listen in on police, EMS, fire, and all other entertaining bands while traveling, including fast food drive through chatter, which is usually quite funny!. With a recieve only scanner antenna you can mount it to the bed stakes, mirror, or use a hood clip and get good reception.

Re: CB radio, where is yours and how did you mount the antenna?
ok here is what i suggest. Toss the cb and get a ham. Get a kenwood tm-271a. It is the best radio around. I run a commercial boat towing company in los angeles and have 2 on eeach of my boats. I also have onet on my pre runner. Down in baja i was able to reach a friend that was 130 miles away with just a normal magnet mount antenna. In my personal truck i have a cb and one of those kenwoods. I thought the cbs were cool but no one is on them anymore. The only reason i still have it is because i have my pa rigged up to it.

Re: CB radio, where is yours and how did you mount the antenna?
Where did you get your mount for the computer? I run a Kenwood D-700 for ham radio and use the APRS function (GPS tracking) all the time. I've been looking for a mount for my net book with mapping software.
I currently run a thru the glass Dual band antenna, but will be changing soon to a Comet mount and antenna that will mount to the hood, door, or the trunk on a car, or hatch on a SUV. The mount will allow the antenna to be set in 2 direction at up to a 90 degree angle. Plus the antenna will fold down flat next to the vehicle.
