Has anyone used this?

NO ! ! ! ! ! it has been proven many times they don't help gas mileage. inside or outside the oil filter they will pick up ferrous iron--- but of course the oil filter will stop any of that from going to the engine.

I have seen the magnets in the oil drain plug. In fact my 88 4runner came from the factory with one as does my suzuki ATV. Also seen them in the manual trans drain plugs and differential plugs. Don't know it it mattered but I always felt better seeing what was trapped on the drain plug magnet. I would be worried about placing one in the filter though. Ceramic magnets are rather brittle and I suppose could fracture of course the would be caught in the filter.

I am definitely not on board with that, however I know that performanceproducts.com ran a filter magnet that was shaped kind of like a ring that would slip on to the outside of the filter and trap stuff that way. I would buy and use one of those if they were cheaper. IIRC they were like 120 bucks....

Here it is, they dont claim hp increase or mpg increase, just filtration....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe bearing material is magnetic.

You're correctamundo, like posted, it's a waste of money. However, drain plug magnets are a good idea in any gearbox, rear end or oil pan. They're standard on most all heavy equipment.
