i didnt test drive the 5.7, and for one reason-- temptation, and plus i couldnt afford to finance another 3g's... i still think the 4.7 is impressive for what it is

I have a 4.7 in an '02.
I have a 5.7 in an '07.
The 5.7 wails!I did a round trip today.
404 miles on 22.4 gal.
Right around 18 @ mostly 70 mph.
Some small town drivin.
And the money you save now.
Will be needed to get the timing belt changed.
If you keep it that long.

It costs 5,000 dollars more for the 5.7 is the reason I chose the 4.7. Just couldnt afford it at the time.

I have a 4.7 and I love it.... But I would get the 5.7 I regret it all the time. The only reason i got the 4.7 is I bought mine in 07 and i would have had to wait 6 months and i couldn't. 5.7 all the way.

Judging by the response it looks like the 4.7 just got for the 5.7. I will post what I ended up with. Thanks for all the persuasion!!

There are times I wish I had the extra power of a 5.7 but I get 20+ mpg out of my 4.7 and I haven't seen one 5.7 owner get that. I drive 90% on highways and interstates and got the 4.7 because of the better gas mileage. The only thing I tow is my street race car (2800lbs) and my 4.7 does that with ease so there was no sense getting a 5.7

Btw, you can't go by the EPA stickers for gas mileage. My wife's Yaris is rated at 35mpg highway and has NEVER gotten under 40mpg and routinely gets 42-44mpg.

I have both 5.7 and 4.7 and I get the exact same mileage from both. One added comment....my 4.7 is a 2006 Gen 1 which is almost 1000 lbs lighter than what a Gen 2 4.7 would be. That would make an extrapolated Gen 2 4.7 mileage estimate rather generous.

You should read up on this site. Its actually relatively easy to get 20+mpg out of my truck. Hypermiling to get every mile out of a gallon of gas is almost as fun as squeezing extra horsepower out of my Z28 My wife got me hooked

$5,000 difference??? I don't recall the price gap being that much at all. You're talking about a pricing differential similar to diesel and gasser options...

I never priced out an entry level regular cab. Is that Tundra grade or SR5? I believe the gap is much closer on a crewmax since they don't even offer the V6...

Awesome...the Toyota Nazis automatically limit your ability to build a truck on their website by your region. Apparently I am not permitted to build a Crewmax with 4x2, or with the 4.7L. Now I remember why buying this truck was the WORST purchasing experience ever. Toyota has their little USA fiefdoms, and the consumer gets the shaft. Wonderful.
