I had to pick up some doors yesterday and had a heck of a time getting my tailgate to open all the way. I had a little ice on the bumper and a little ice on the tailgate, and it was enough that the tailgate wouldn't drop all the way open. When I looked at it this morning I have some nice dents in the bottom of the gate. It only has 1/2" of clearance between the tailgate and the black step on the top of my chrome bumper. 1/2" !! Anybody else run into this trouble?
Pretty common I think, I had some rock in the back of my truck and after clearing it out, abouy a week later a pebble fell throught the slot when I opened the tailgate and out onto the bumper...luckily I saw it and felt the slight resistance and stopped before it did any damage...Also happened when I went camping once...just from the dirt and sand build up from driving off road.I keep a wisk broom in the the cab now and use it when I go camping, to wipe the stuff away before I open the tailgate...kind of a pain but it works and I only go camping a couple times a year now.

I need a new word of the month people!
yup... i found that out when we went up to santa fe to visit my folks over christmas... i too (luckily) caught it before i had caused any damage.
i do like the fact that, even with the tailgate down, there's enough room on the corner of the bumper for your can of Full Throttle to sit while you load up.

Well it looks like it's not just me anyways. It's just a huge pain in the butt this time of year with all the snow. Snow falls on the truck, sun heats it up just enough to turn it to ice, then it turns cold again, and it sticks like glue. I could almost put my arm between the bumper and gate on my old truck. I've got a bad feeling this truck is not going to age very gracefully.
Happens with most trucks...I've had acorns come through the gap when I open the tailgate and then I end up crushing them...thankfully no dents from them though.
Ice is a b!tch though...just gotta clear it away.

Knock on wood, I haven't had any dents on my tailgate from ice or anything like that. Had multiple occasions where something like that could happen.
When we did our redneck hottub, a girl who weighs maybe a buck ten got into my truck and somehow dented my tailgate. I didn't hear a bang from her knee either? Even the rotund female didn't dent my truck when she got into the Silverado a few feet over lol. I was expecting my bedsides to collapse.
