Default can't stand it anymore!!

Ok, it's a small gripe but why is there an excessive amount of whine/hum/interference through the speakers when I have my satalite radio plugged in to the auxillary jack. I have to have the radio at about 40 to hear it clearly. If i switch to FM it's deafening! but not on Aux! Same satalite works great in my wifes Civic with the same wires. Is this an issue? Please help.

I had the same problem when one of the ends of the aux to aux cable was going bad. I know you said you were using the same cables, but try a new one just for kicks.

Thanks guys, I'll give that a shot. I haven't replaced the stock head unit yet but hopefully I won't need this item when that gets done. I'll let you know if it worked.

Yeah, keep us posted, please! I used an aux to aux cable I got off ebay with right angle mini plugs. It lasted nearly a year and one of the ends started getting a short. For a few days I could wiggle it and get it working, then it just went to the horrible hum/buzz full time. Unfortunately, even with a good cable neither XM unit I've owned sounds very good. I wish they'd get the audio quality better. After about 20-30 minutes of listening, the buzzy, scratchy audio does me in and it's back to FM or the iPod.

whine through speakers is usually due to cheap, low insulated wires picking up bleed off from other electrical sounds. if you hear your phone ring through your speakers or whine through them its just cheap wireing inside to save money. replace speaker and head unit helps sometimes.

just what little i know

good luck

Get one of the PAC units it cure the problem. It just seems there a ground loop that gets created when you plug in a source into the 3.5mm AUX jack and that same source is gettign power for 12V in the truck. I used the PAC SNI-1/3.5 and it cured my problem with AUX input from my Blackberry to the the AUX port to stream digital radio to it. Cheap and quick fix. Ypu you want to test it out get a secondary power soruce to feed the input device battery or maybe ever 12V from a battery charger you see that the humm goes away when there is silence or simply pull the plug from the AUX jack no more humm cause your introducing it through the source device when plugged in.

Brockoli,
I had this same issue. The way I solved it was I looked on Craig's List and searched for Car Audio install services. I found a kid about 10 miles away who said he could fix anything, and install anything car-audio-related. He ended up installing a ground loop isolator and it fixed the whine 100%. He charged me $40.

What you have is called "Alternator Whine" or "Auxillary Input Whine." It has to do with how the stereo is grounded. I suggest finding a car audio guru in your area and asking him if he can fix alternator whine. It's a simple, cheap fix, but you'll spend a ton if you go to a "Pro" audio shop.
