Default What is everyone using to play video from ipods/iphone to factory navs?

What is everyone using to play video on the factory navigation from an ipod/iphone?

I've been watching the following thread on the Vais SL2Vi as I thought this was the only adapter currently providing the ability to play video from an ipod/iphone to the tundra's factory nav but it didn't seem this was the preferred unit. Is anything else available to do this?

i have been searching for something for a year or so. the vais sl2 is nice but not worth the video function since it doesnt play it when the cars moving. forum member dmtalon wrote me this about his peripheral integration kit:

I would say it's not *perfect* but it does exactly what I want. I bought from icarkits and I got the: Peripheral iSimple Media GW TY1 which comes with the correct charging cable for the 3g iPhone.

With it, when I hit "SAT" it switches over to that, but then I can use the "TUNE" knob to select either sat, aux1, or aux2, ipod

sat is of course integrated sat if you have it. Aux1 is IPOD/IPHONE audio w/o ipod control (i.e. this is the mode I use to stream pandora/orb). aux2 is a second aux for the box which I am not currently using. IPOD allows controlling the ipod/phone via the factory JBL screen. It works ok, and I imagine most limitations are with the screen itself. (I have the factory nav). I just prefer using the iphone to navigate so I don't ever use IPOD mode. It might be fine once you learn it, I just haven't.

There's a few things that IMHO could be better. The audio level is quite a bit lower than the radio, so you have to turn the stereo up a LOT to get the audio to a good level. I would think they could amplify it some within the box.

Any compression in the audio your listening too seems to be pretty noticeable. For instance, when listening to ORB LIVE (Iphone App) I use it to stream SIRIUS to my iPhone, and it is a 32kbit stream. The audio out of that has a very tinny sound to it on the higher frequencies. (If I am planning to listen for a while to ORB I will turn the treble down to reduce the tinny noise)

Pandora seems hit or miss (probably related to the signal strength) sometimes it sounds GREAT (lower compression) and other times it sounds more compressed.

Integrated music/podcasts/videos all sound great, just lower volume than I would like.

That's one cool thing too, if you have a video ipod you can watch video ON the ipod/phone screen with audio going through the factory stereo (using aux1)

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Oh, there's one more thing that is supposed to be fixable. When you plug the iPhone in, I get the message saying the accessory isn't designed for this device, and it asks me if I want to turn airplane mode on. I always say no, and there is no problem. They *say* a future firmware upgrade should fix that message.
