Default Instructions for replacing front brake pads on 2007 Tundra

    HI.

I need to replace the front disc pads on my 2007 Tundra Double-cab 4x4 with 5.7L. Cant find instructions of a Haynes repair manual.

Can anyone tell me how to change them?? I've changed brakes forever. Even did the rear disc brakes on this truck, no problem. I've never seen anything like the front discs.

    Help!

    Thanks,

    John

They are pretty standard. What problems are you running in to?

I haven't done mine yet, but my understanding is they are easier than normal because you can just pull some pins and the pads come out without removing the calipers. You might have to get creative compressing the cylinders though since the caliper is still attached.

I guess my biggest problem was being surprised by what they look like compared to all the disc brakes I worked on. It doesnt look like you would remove the bottom caliper screw and swing it up, mainly because the brake line is toward the center of caliper and its partially metal tubing.

I saw the pins, but wasnt sure how to compress caliper to free up the pads to take them out. Any suggestions to compressing the caliper?

For once in my life I decided not to continue until I could get a better idea of what to do. Did not want to break anything and be stuck with a brakeless truck. Maybe I'm starting to learn with age. Maybe!

No need to remove the caliper.

Simply remove the wire stays, pull the pins. Clean the pins and grease.

Leave the old pads in on one side while using channel locks, C-clamp, whatever to push the pistons open. If you do not leave old pads in the other pistons will come out of their bore.

    Swap pads/sides and repeat.

If the entire job, including tire removal takes more than 15 minutes, you're doing it wrong.

Mine are about at 38K and have at least half their life left, but I'm really easy on my brakes (lots-O-downshifting) and do alot of freeway driving.

Forgive me as I have yet to take a look at this, but will there be clearance for c-clamps when the caliper is still on the rotor? I guess having not done this I don't see how a c-clamp is going to fit in there.

Dude, I used channel locks..........probably could use a wood shim. What ever will work. The piston goes in without a fight.

The key is to do one side of the caliper at a time.

Remove one pad; compress piston, install new pad.

    Remove other pad and repeat.

Thanks for all the info. Sounds like a piece of cake now. I have about 32k i think. Doing alot of towing, while owning my own tree service. Replaced the rear discs about 6 months or so ago. Those are much smaller than front.

So why aren't y'all taking off the calipers. Are we so shade tree where we will just pad slap the brakes?

Put matchmarks on the disc and hub if you're planning on turning the rotors (if not buying new ones)

Also caliper bolts are to be torqued to 73 ft/lbs.
