Okay, so I have dug a little to find some info on my options. Here's a little background-- have 2 labs that make the summer trip to FL to see Grandma and we usually drive the 4Runner. I want to drive the Tundra, but no go on caged dogs in the back for the trip....so....
My options along the hardtop line seem expensive. What about soft toppers? I have found the soft topper brand is lacking a cab collar thing to keep the cab-to-top connection sealed, so what now?
Anyone have any options under about $600? The best price on a soft topper was $592.50 delivered. We are leaving on May 23rd, so timing is important....
You're looking for a soft tonneau? I had one of these on my Dakota and loved it. It rolls up like a soft cover and flips up like a hard cover. I don't know if you like snaps but they don't have a part number for a snap-less for a crewmax. Hope this helps. extang

Not a tonneau, a soft topper, like a Hard topper, but folds up and stores easily. I need something I can take off when the Tundra returns to it's day job....construction beast.
Just purchased the Extang Trifecta Signature series which is the cloth finish (looks better then the vinyl top in my opinion). It was $435.00 out the door, no sales tax or shipping charge. I had this same cover on my 2006 DC Tundra and absolutely loved it. Loved it enough to buy another one. Just put it on my new Crewmax last week. Perfect.....

So if I get this right, your looking for something like a soft top that a jeep would have.
Best company I know of is Can-Back, not sure if they are still in business, tops are pricey bu very well made. Not sure if they have a Tundra version yet, but they are whod I'd go with.
Rockpig-- you are on the right track. The pic is exactly along the lines of what I am looking for. I really just want something I can put on and take off easily when I need it. Nothing that will be on for extended periods of time, but it has to be watertight.

Try Can-back. They used to be a small business making older 4Runner tops, Bronco, etc. Great product but again, costly. Call them to see if they have a Tundra version. If you do order make sure they have one in stock and get a delivery date, they went ot of bsiness last year and it took quite awhile for people to get theirs. If I had the extra money I would get one for my 85 4Runner. Can-Back Canvas Truck Camper Shell
This is primarily to transport your dogs, right? If the ready-made dog boxes are too confining, could you build one out of plywood that is tall enough for big dogs to stand up? Then leave the front open so you can open the rear slider to check on them without having to pull over. Seal the leading edges to the back of the cab with that gray pipe insulation that is slit lengthwise. Remove when trip over.

Softtopper.com makes a great one for our truck. But, no cab connection. So far as I know, none of the soft camper shells have the ability to even open the front window, much less have a cab connection.
I myself have resigned myself to a fiberglass, insulated, colormatched topper.
I may run the soft topper and have my local uphostery (<--sp?) shop fab me a collar. I can get some 3m auto tape and it should hold for the trip down and back. Anyone know if BestTop had one for the TUndra? Waiting on a return email from them on Monday..
