I've been itching to try this out. Never really had time 'till today. I really didn't wanna pay for the Carbon Fiber overlay until I tried this. If it looked like garbage, then I would buy it. It was pretty simple. Took about 2 hours due to the paint dry time. Let me know what you think..:mosh:
First, you need to remove the gauge console by pulling on the coin holder, it's a lil tough, be carefull.. Then, start prying of the gauge cover/console off by disconecting the plugs... Next comes the center console... That piece that holds the cup holders pops off. You need to take it off the get to a screw that secures the center console.. After they are all taken out, time to prep for paint!! :mosh: I used 1000 Grit Wetsandpaper from Autozone...I also used my kitchen sink, which upset the wiffle....::sad1:: Ohh, I almost forgot. I completely disassembled the cluster so that I can paint the gauge bezels a different color.
Sanding time.... Do this to all pieces you wanna paint... Now for paint. I used a Krylon paint that is designed for plastics.. After all is done and dry, put back together. I used a little bit of Krazy Glue to secure my bezels since I broke off the factory adhesive. And Walla!!! Not too shabby right. Watcha guys think???
Looks good...really like the blue trim idea. Did you use the high gloss paint? Any sticky-ness to the feel? Will it hold up on really hot days?
I don't like the silver (unless my truck was silver) and went with the wood kit myself, but I'm not too happy with it (one of those impulse buys)...although I like it better than the silver. Eventually I might rip it out and go with this idea, except more glossy to match the head unit.

Thanks. No sticky feeling at all. I used the flat black because, well, I dunno. I have flat black wheels so I guess I kept that theme going. It should hold up fine. The paint was made for plastics and flexible materials, so no flaking or chipping. Your in Inland Empire? ome on over on a weekend and I can help you out...
I think you did a great job. I think you should have tried with black and silver though, just to see. Nice work.
Thanks for the compliment. I was actually thinking Blue Streak Metallic like my RCSB, but this was the closest they had. Looks a lil on the purple side but oh well. If anything, I might do the rings red to give it a sportier appearance...
Looks great!!! I can't believe that only took you 2 hours. Do you you have any zoomed out pics to show it together with the whole dash? Good idea with the blue to match your truck... not to mention the stitching on your seats as well.

Reason: misspelled stitch. =D

Thanks! I'll get some zoomed out pics tomorrow in the afternoon. I'll make sure to post them up. A lil dark outside + I have a crappy cell phone camera...
