Has anyone tackled converting the entire interior (Dash, posts, headliner, console, seats and carpet) of their Tundra? I have an 07 Tundra CM TRD that I couldn't pass up, but the interior is not my choice. (Tan)
I have the option of having my dash replaced due to the fact it is warped. So I was pondering having them install the black dash, then I would little by little tackle the rest of the items.
I've given this a lot of thought as well - I've got a Pyrite Double Cab with the tan interior. I would have preferred the black interior, but there was none to be found, at least when I was looking (January '09 for a leftover '08 model in the NY area).
I actually like the dark chocolate dash in the tan interior - it's the tan seats and carpets that bother me. And there are solutions there -
First the carpets - there are carpet dyes sold, ostensibly for the restoration market. You get a bunch of this stuff and spray your old carpets to make them look like new. I figure some dark brown re-dye should turn our tan carpets to a nice dark brown. I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but I'm planning on doing just the mats some time this summer or fall to see how they turn out. If it goes well, maybe I do the whole floor. Any darket brown will show less dirt than the tan. Carpet Dyes:
The seats are easier or harder, depending on how you look at it. There are a lot of seat covers out there, many quite cool. This place - Katzkin Katzkin Leather Interiors - seems to offer the largest array of colors and fabrics in a nearly true oem-fit. They are not cheap, and they may require seat removal to install, though it seems like that is the case for a lot of covers like the Wet Okoles.
By making the seats and carpets a nice dark brown, we could get rid of the tan, and have a very unique interior - without having to replace dashboards or door panels or console bits....

You can paint the platics black like I have done.....Also, You can buy the black carpeting and swap it out yourself..That's on my to do list. I have vinyl seat cover which are black. They were fairly cheap and look great. You can try those ideas to minmize the tan color...my 2 cents..
I too have the tan and thought the same idea with brown. I would have chosen black, grey and finally tan but when you are getting a great price, you compromise.
I got tan mats so I'm leaving what I got alone. When it gets old, I plan on brown carpet and brown leather seats with some tan piping to replace the worn interior.
The carpet is extremely expensive to buy from Toyota. Some of the paints / dyes for plastic work better than others. Painting the Silver parts of the dash aren't too hard to get to come out looking good. Getting some of the other stuff to look good isn't quite so easy. For instance, Gutz, you have the same interior that I have. I wanted all black, but it wasn't offered - coincidentally, it is offered in 2010 RCSB setups. The grey plastic parts may not come out as good, when painted - they may scratch easily. I would love to turn my interior all black, with the exception of the headliner, but I just don't know if painting some of those items will turn out well. I certainly don't want to have to pay for all of that in new parts - very expensive.

I used to work at a body shop so I have pretty in depth knowledge of how to paint plastics. I painted my gauge cluster and center console black. Although I did not use automotive paint for it, it looks great. Just gotta make sure you use paint that is intended for plastics, that and plenty of sanding and prepping. As far as the carpet, they are ridiculously expensive like you said. Some of the interior though, like you said, will not turn out good looking if you paint it, like the center storage cover or the ruberry/plastic interior door handles. I say painting what can be painted black and buying the rest in black is the most cost effective...IMO...
I heard SEM products are good for plastic... better than other brands.
I might try it one day. I have gray interior! Want it all black. As for the seats, Katzkin leather is the way to go? Carpet is the hardest part.
I wish toyota put better paint on the dashboard... at least lustre a litte bit... right now it's so flat... feel like sand papers!... If it's easy to remove the dashboard... I might remove it and repaint it.
My wish list is to replace the cloth grey seat covers with Katzkin leathers... when time come, I will repaint it all black!
