I am curious as to how some trucks exhibit problems and some don't. After all the TSB states that there have been design changes that help prevent future issues with the front differential. I have 17.5K on mine and do not have the wu=wu sound or feel any vibration. I have had the truck in 4 wheel drive approximately 10 times with no hard wheelin going on.
I have a truck that was build in January 08 and I do not want to have a failure when the warranty gives out. With my luck, this scenario might happen. Since there is a new design, isn't Toyoya admitting there is a problem? I am not mechanically inclined, so this is more about educating myself than bitching about Toyota's stance on the issue...
my truck was build in january of 2008.I took my truck to the dealer and ask them to check my front differential. They ended up replacing it because my truck was listed in their tsb.My truck worked fine in 4x4 and i coudnt hear the noise described.

You should at least have engaged 4wd more than 10 times in 17K miles. If you come to a stop with a perfectly straight road in front of you, throw it into 4wd and drive until the road bends before putting it back into 2wd. You've got to keep everything lubricated. That could also be why you haven't had the problem yet.
Question for those who have had it replaced:
anyone have a lift installed when they took it in?? if so, did the dealer hassle yopu by telling you that the lift caused the problem??
reason I ask is I am taking mine in this week and plan to show them the TSB and want to know what I am looking forward to...
Thanks.

I don't think you need to do that, even though the transfer isn't in 4wd the front shaft will still spin lubing the front diff's R&P.

My truck's a Jan 08 also, and i first heard the front diff noise the day i lubed the front driveshaft myself for the first time (which i was able to do thanks to all the awesome info on this site btw). I thought i had screwed sumthin up lol cuz i drove my truck in 4wd right after i finished the job, and when i switched back to 2wd, that's when i started hearing the noise. I was like nicee, what did i just do wrong, but the dealership guy said it was just a coincidence lol. They replaced the front diff under warranty, that was at around 10k, and now she has almost 35k and so far so good.
They told me that this problem woulda been covered under warranty till 60k miles, so hopefully if sumthin is gunna go wrong with urs it'll happen b4 then, and if it hasn't shown up by then, hopefully it never will
