I bought my first Tundra about 3 weeks ago. Its a 2007 Tundra Double Cab. I was pretty geeked about the ability of this truck to play mp3's. I first tried playing mp3's with my ipod and plugged it into the aux port. The music was played over the speakers, but at a very low volume. I had to turn the radio all the way up to get any kind of volume. In case you ask, I made sure that the volume setting on the mp3 player was all the way up too.
I tried the neighbors mp3 player (of a different brand) to make sure it wasn't just my ipod. That too was at a very low volume. Since I am afraid of blowing out my speaker by switching from aux to FM without dialing down the volume, I've decided not to use the aux port.
Is this typical, is there something I can do to make this work better, or am I doing something wrong?
I know that the disc player will read mp3's and I am using that right now.
my aux input works well with ipod.... perhaps it is the connection cord you are using... if mine isnt plugged in fully, very little volume comes thru, but once i uumm... plugged it in correctly.... <duh>, it works great!

When I plug my mp3 player in I get the same thing,I know there is nothing wrong with the cable,I just turn volume all the way up on the mp3 player and adjust radio volume accordingly and its fine. One thing not to forget is,depending on where you download your mp3's from the bitrate for each may change,Which will definetly affect the song volume, clarity etc. When downloading MP3's you want at least a 192 bitrate for them to sound good thru the radio,The lowest I'd go is 128BR anything lower and it will sound like crap the higher the better.
My Sansa is pretty quiet through the Aux port too, but I'm pretty sure my base model single disc factory head unit has separate volume settings when you switch between FM & Aux for example so that you don't blast yourself switching inputs.

I had this problem. That's why I bought a new head unit with a USB input. It works great now.

I've got the standard single CD in my '07 SR5 and volume from both Ipod & Iphone is equal to radio & CD volume. Just to be clear, we are talking about the 1/8" AUX jack on the face of the radio, not the changer/ipod port on the back?
My ipod works great throught the aux port, but recently when using the sirrius radio through aux port, I don't get the full stereo out of it. I need to cross-check to make sure it is the input to the aux and not the sirrius but I am pretty sure it is the port.
