Re: So mad at Toyota I am having trouble typing!!!
This was my first toyota and possibly last, reason being is i really need to be in a 3/4 ton truck. However for the tailgate issue, there was a difference between the first 2 and this current one, mine is currently caved in towards the center. I have placed a band aid on it by making a piece of diamond plate as a cover for the inside, this still doesnt make up for toyota's short comings on building a truck.
The ridgeline, isnt most if its bed made out of plastic? Not a bad thing, i just dont think i would be loading construction type material siuch as dirt in it.

Re: So mad at Toyota I am having trouble typing!!!
The Ridgeline is good for what it is, but certainly not anywhere near the capacity of the Tundra. My biggest concern with a Ridgeline would be the tranny, it's the same basic platform/drivetrain as the Oddyssey minivan, we had an '03 Oddy. Motor was strong, even fully loaded with passenger & luggage, but there were a lot of complaints on the boards of early tranny failures. There was a recall for the oiler for 2nd gear (Honda replaced mine for free under recall) and the old gear showed signs of premature wear. But even after this there were still a LOT of complaints about the tranny, a family member purchased a used one and at 80k miles it blew it's transmission and needed a replacement. I think the tailgate failures are a very weak link in an otherwise excellent truck, whether it's bad design or just not anticipating customer's needs I can't say, but I do know that replacing or repairing a bent tailgate is still cheaper than upgrading substandard brakes/tranny/motor on any other truck to get them up to Tundra levels. Oh, and my wife says if you're gonna drive a truck, drive a sexy truck. That's why she made me choose the Tundra over the Ridgeline. And for once, I didn't argue

Re: So mad at Toyota I am having trouble typing!!!
Hey guys,
I'm getting my tailgate replaced next week. I don't load bikes or anything like that. I just make the odd trip to home depot and such, but my tailgate was starting to separate. I have an early '07 model.
Took it to the dealer and they hadn't seen that problem yet. I sent them pictures showing the redesigned version with the bracket and explained the whole issue. They took pictures of my tailgate and got authorization to replace it. I'm dropping my truck off on Monday and their body shop is doing the switch. Apparently, it's just the shell they replace and they will reinstall all the parts from my current gate.

Toyota I am still very upset with, but I am loving K-M Toyota out in Western Mass!!!! It was a very scenic 3 hour ride out there on Route 2 and well worth the ride. Let me try to paint a picture for you... your driving on this winding mountain road, Rt. 2 West, and you descend into this cool little valley/mill town called North Adams, MA. On your way up the other side on Rt. 2 you literally almost drive right by this old school white building with a small sign, "K-M Toyota". Seriously I would have driven by had it not been for my Nav!!! So I pull in and it was like stepping back in time close to 30 years. Imagine... People that sincerely care about you helping you get into the small but productive service area, where even more caring and helpful people are scurrying about the customers vehicles, but find a moment to shoot out a "be right with ya". I met the service manager through another Tundra Solutions Member whose name I won't mention unless he says it's ok???? We had spoke on the phone prior to my drive out and I was asked to bring my truck on the day that the area rep would be there. I did and the rep made a phone call and said no problem. They let me leave my piece of Krap old style gate and ordered me a new one that day!!!! NOW THAT'S THE TOYOTA I USED TO KNOW!!! The one I thought I had purchased a truck from back in 2007. I guess I just didn't pick the right dealerships to have my gate warrantied through!!! So the service guys helped me take my gate off and all apart to strip off the none-shell pieces and then hand wrote me a receipt!! That's right... HAND WROTE my receipt. No computer in the service department!! I love it. It really was like going back 20 or 30 years ago in time being there and man it sure did bring back some fond memories of the way things used to be!!!
This country is falling apart and it shows more and more everyday. So many companies putting out sub-standard products and then not standing behind them when they inevitably fail under normal use. It's sickening and I can only hope that some other dealers read this post and realize that service still matters even when things get tough, maybe even more so, as we all are watching our investments more closely. I know I will absolutely spend more time deciding who gets my money when I decide to buy something that I'll be making payments on for 5 years!!!
K-M Toyota... You rock and if there is anything I can do to help you guys out you just let me know. Thanks again for do the right thing. Apparently something that 2 dealers local to me as well as my area rep from Toyota (at least according to the last dealer I saw) refused to do.
What a process.
Thanks everyone for your help and if anyone needs help getting their dealers to own up please feel free to contact me anytime either through here or at my hotmail address: rpmgsxr

Great to hear.
This type of B.S. many of us went thru on the early 1st-gen Tundras and Sequoias. It doesn't say much about Toyota, when 2 dealers give a customer completely different service. You shouldn't have to search for just the right dealer to get the DEFECTIVE tailgate replaced, after another one refuses. Still, it sounds like you found a dealer who is a 'keeper'. After they replace it, you should take it back to the original dealer, show them, and tell them they just lost a customer for life. /Mike

Post a picture of the good dealership.... get them some good PR.... I really think that if someone has good experiences somewhere to let everyone know. I will go completely out of my way to go to a good dealership where I know I will be treated right and the problem fixed correctly the first time..... I will drive states over if I have to....I will definitely pay a premium for good customer service...
Re: So mad at Toyota I am having trouble typing!!!
That's awesome. Definatley write a letter to the old dealership and then personally hand deliver it to the service manager. They need to know that they suck and that you'll never be back again.

Re: So mad at Toyota I am having trouble typing!!!
I'm one of the lucky one's. Frontier Toyota in Winnipeg, MB just got my new gate on without any issue. I did have to shop around at other dealers to get the answer I wanted, but these guys were great with this any everything else that has come up.
Only problem I have is that I have to eat the bill for the Line-X on the gate again. They did get it done for me, but I don't agree that Toyota should be off the hook. I'm not going to burn any bridges over this though, at least I got a new gate.
Please note that my dealer IS NOT Sunshine as noted above in my details, I just can't figure out how to change it. I won't be taking anything to Sunshine as long as there is still a sun in the sky.
