Come on now, get real the specs for the tailgate have nothing to do with if it is made by Texans or Japanese, some engineer and bean counter banged heads and the tailgate we see is the results and the one the WORKERS were TOLD to put on the truck. My 2000 Tundra was made here and those Indiana workers did a very good job.

No threads or posts containing discussions regarding legal action against any company or discussions of "lemon laws" may be posted.
Well, that's just a BS rule! This sounds very justified to me.
I'd go after the mfg. (Toyota) with both barrels blazing in a case like this. File suit against Toyota in District court for whatever amount you want, & bring all the evidence to show. Toyota will be unprepared for an adequate defense, & they will shuffle around with legal moves & try to avoid a showdown with you. Run them through the ringer. Represent yourself.
Re: So mad at Toyota I am having trouble typing!!!
Is this one of those "secret warranty" deals, where they may fix some, but don't openly acknowledge it as a problem, and therefore can ignore it if they figure you'll just go away? If so, the more hassle you make for them, they may just fix yours so you cease to be an issue for them.
I have an '07, and have loaded lots on my tailgate. I guess not enough to actually break anything, but if I press on the outside of the tailgate, I can see a small split occurring at the edge. I guess if it ever really breaks, I'll try the dealer, and if I get no satisfaction, I'll buy a newer tailgate which I can see is built better. Still beats driving a Ford.

I do not have the problem. I have the original, old style tail gate. My truck build date is 12/07. I use the truck for everyday construction work - hauling lumber, sheetrock, shingles, 4x8 sheets of mdf ... lots of heavy goods, often laying on the tailgate while driving. My gate hasn't split yet.
Looking at how the gate is made, I don't doubt some people have had theirs come apart. I'm actually surprised mine has lasted as long as it has.
Hey, rpmgsxr! Post us up a picture of your split tail gate. I'd like to see what your dealer and the Toyota rep saw when they refused to do anything about it.

Re: So mad at Toyota I am having trouble typing!!!
go to another dealer or two and ask their service manager's opion on it and do so before you mention the steps you already took. im glad mine hasnt split but mine hasnt been used too much, only occasionally had my 225lb azz sittin or standing on it sometimes more than one of us, once a truck load of cabinets with some setting on it but oh well. its a lease so what do i care anyway.

I read some of these threads and i think did these trucks all come from the same factory? I have an 07 DC that i purchased brand new. I now have about 25k on the truck and no problems whatsoever. I've also loaded my 800lb Harley in the back a few times and no problems with the tailgate. I take it through the automatic "touch" car wash during the winter months and hand wash during the summer. Haven't noticed any unusual scratching. All i can say is i wouldn't hesitate to purchase another Tundra.

I'll try to post some pics next sunny day I get. Living in Boston could mean never!!! Seems like walkl we get is rain here. Boston... the new Seattle!!! Lol.
BTW... New style gates were installed on all trucks built after 04/08 so you probably do have the new one which would explain why yours is still fine.

I'm not exactly sure why there is this rule about no posts with legal matter in them but I'm sure it has something to do with liability on the part of Tundrasolutions. It doesn't matter as long as we don't speak to direct legal action I guess.
Mod: Correct me if I'm are wrong. As I stated earlier, I'm just trying to get Toyota to own up. Not just for me but for my fellow Tundra owners as well. I wnat to see a TSB for this gate issue.

Re: So mad at Toyota I am having trouble typing!!!
For all of you thinking Ford, Dodge, and GMC are "better" or "stronger" -- They are not. The Diesels are rated to pull more weight, but quality problems plague them as well. I've owned gassers and diesels from all of the big three (Looking like it may be the small 2). I could go on and on with all of the issues they have had. Just journey over to a Ford, GM, or Dodge forum to see for yourself.
I love the Tundra, but I also liked the Ford's, GM's, and Dodges too and each one gave me heartburn for different reasons. So far the Tundra has been great.
Re: So mad at Toyota I am having trouble typing!!!
Yup, I've owned the b-3 too and was not impressed, I got real tired of them too. My last b-3 was a 94 GMC and I all but prayed for Toyota to build a big truck. When the Tundra came out in 2000 I was all over it like white on rice and I still have it... for a short time more anyway. Went I bought the 5th wheel I started all over again wanting Toyota to build a bigger truck, until then I struggled along with my 2000, it pulled that 5'er up and down the mountains without a complaint.
My wife had a 94 Ford with the 300 6 and manual tranny, dang thing couldn't get out of its own way or haul a sack of tomatoes without the rear bumper dragging. Anyone remember the Ford Granda? Guess what the F150 and Granda shared? Manual tranny, learn that from the mechanic at the Ford dealer.

Re: So mad at Toyota I am having trouble typing!!!
Hey out of curiosity, how much $$ do they want for a new tailgate?
While I can appreciate anyone's frustration about a crappy built body part, the corp can at their discretion repair, replace, or not, anything that would seem to be warrantied. If they choose to not replace it, saying you abused it and it's your problem, you might consider negotiation. For example, if a new tailgate costs $1,200 (wild guess, maybe way off, but anyway) maybe they'll sell it to you for their cost less $100 which again wild guess would be $600 - $100 = $500 ? That way nobody is totally happy but nobody is totally unhappy either?
Just a thought, and how I would consider approaching the dealer if you still have any faith in them atall.

Re: So mad at Toyota I am having trouble typing!!!
Okay, so I'm not really turned off by this issue since I still think a Tundra would be my best choice for a full sized pickup, although I would prefer to have the new style tailgate. Do we just have a rough date estimate to go by (04/08) or is there a VIN number cutoff to look for? I look at many preowned vehicles online which are too far for me to simply drive and take a look at and I don't have enough confidence in the dealer to tell me that a Tundra has the newer tailgate.
