So I got the official answer today from Toyota Corporate that they will not repair or replace the pathetic excuse for a tailgate that came on my 2007 Tundra!!!!! I know that there are over 850 posts in the other thread regarding this tailgate issue here in this forum and am completely disgusted with the response I got today after the area rep turned me down and I had to go to corporate with this issue.
I need help from my fellow Tundra owners that have had their tailgates fail, and am currently planning on starting poll that I can use to show Toyota how many people are affected by this. Toyota should be ashamed of themselves for their disgraceful and blatant denial of this unbelieveably enemicly designed tailgate.
How you can help me is simple.
If you have had a tailgate failure that they won't fix please email me at rpmgsxr@hotmail.com with "Toyota won't fix my tailgate" in the subject line.
If your tailgate failed and you had it fixed by Toyota email me at rpmgsxr@hotmail.com with "Toyota fixed my tailgate" in the subject line.
Any proof or pertinent subject matter can be added in the body of your email (details, invoices...).
TOYOTA IS NOT GOING TO GET AWAY WITH THIS DIGUSTING DENIAL OF POOR DESIGN AND WORSE... DIPLORABLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Not if I can help it.
My plan is to gather as many names and as much proof (receipts from dealerships for replacement under warranty, pictures from Tundra Forum members, etc) as possible and take this to Toyota Corporate.
I bought this truck in good faith that it would act as a viable truck. A tailgate that fails because I roll sportbikes up a ramp occasionally is not anything proving this to be anything close to a viable truck.
Anything that you think will help my cause is greatly appreciated but I think the best argument for me is that the tailgate from what I understand was redesigned somewhere around April of 2008 production (anyone out there with proof of this??), and that many people have had their early producion model gates replaced already with no hassle. Why is Toyota picking and choosing who they replace these gates for?????
Look at the pics of my truck does it appear abused to you???
THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!!!!
Please take the time to help me out as Toyota has turned their back on me and suggested that I start a litigation process with them. Is this neccessary????
NO WAY!!! I will spend as much time as necesary here or wherever gather proof of their negligence.
Let's work together and show that when people work in groups we still can make a difference and maybe, just maybe, Toyota will own up and issue the damn TSB, or better yet, Recall, that they should have when this problem was first realized.
Thanks for your time,
Bob Murphy

This is complete BS from Toyota. I take OCD level care of my truck and to have the tailgate bend when I sit on it is absolutely ridiculous. I weigh 200 lbs. But what's worse is that they denied me after I explained how many paople have had their gates replaced already and that Toyota even re-designed it and that trucks assembnled after 04/08 have a new design. They still said no to replacing mine. I am still fuming and have emailed each of my local TV stations regarding this. Hopefully someone picks up the story. I will not stop until they own up. I am sooooooo mad I can not even put it to words. Anything you or anyone can do to help me would be greatly appreciated.

Re: So mad at Toyota I am having trouble typing!!!
Well to say that sucks is being polite.
I haven't had trouble with my tailgate, but then I don't put much of anything back there. Guess my fat butt would be enough to bent from what I have read. I have ordered the 7/75 Platinum but seems Toyota is getting testy with the tailgates!
Re: So mad at Toyota I am having trouble typing!!!
i tried getting mine replaced through my dealer earlier this year and they said they had no idea about any changes to the tailgates and referred me to their collision and body shop. i asked to speak with the service manager and they took my information and said they would have him call me. two weeks later and three phone calls to them, still no response. i called up toyota USA directly to file a complaint. they took all my information and said that the regional dealer rep would be in contact with me within 3 business days. two days later i got the phone call and discussed the problem. the next day i brought it to the dealer, showed two people there the problem, and explained that i knew about the redesigned tailgates and that the stock ones were rated for 200 lbs. at the time i weighed 210 lbs, so i made sure to make a point that i could not even sit on my tailgate by their ratings. they had me a new tailgate a week later, i dropped off my truck so they could color match the paint, and it was back in my possession in 2 days. the guys at the dealer commented that they had not seen the new tailgates yet and could definitely see the added supports and better welds. through all of this i was honest and said that the tailgate had problems because i loaded my ATV in the bed of my tundra. i may not have disclosed that my ATV weighs close to 1,000 lbs, but i wasn't about to volunteer that information.
my suggestion would be to call toyota USA and file a complaint, not ask for warranty work. remember, the greasy wheel gets the grease.

I already went up the ladder with corporate Toyota USA. That's why I am sooo friggin mad.
Do you have anything that you can provide me in the way of proof as in a copy of a receipt for the replacement of the tailgate or any pictures before/after??

Re: So mad at Toyota I am having trouble typing!!!
Oh I guarantee I will squeal. They will replace my tailgate I promise you that. My fight is to get them to issue the recall that they should have done when they realized the problem and redesigned the tailgate for the 04/08 and later models Tundras. Instead of screwing with customers that have made the jump from American trucks based on false claims that this is as capable truck as any other. I loved my truck outside of a few acceptable minor issues that have been taken care of, but that this is now become such a huge issue, my mind may be changed forever regarding Toyota.

That is a seperate issue that did actually receive an official TSB. Thanks though for your response.

The OP didn't mention anything of himself wanting to take legal action. He was stating Toyota themselves recommended he take legal action. He's just trying to gather as much proof as possible to prove there's an existing problem with the tailgate in order to get it replaced.
People from Toyota do frequent this and other Toyota forums, so be rest assured they know what's going on. Like others said before, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
