That would be a different story.. im just not too fond of a brand new Ford gasoline engine.. SOHC; 2 valves/ 2 spark plugs per cylinder??? - I mean come on!! - I'd stick to a S/C Tundra! Besides, the Raptor's only offered in extended cab and their extended cab is tiny.. probably compared to a RCSB Tundra!

I posted a thread a while back on this..

We have a problem!!!

I wish they were pushin' out 425 hp and 425 torque. Looks like it's only 400/400 as of now.

Who knows what'll happen when the engine debuts.. even if it turns out 400/400. Being a ford; a chip, with a few breather mods will get it to 425+. Im sure its gonna be a powerful engine both ways but im just not quite fond of the engineering that was invested in the design

Very true. I think a lot of it is they're leaving "room for improvement"

My '98 Expedition had a 230/330 hp/tq and it was on the 330 cubic inch motor (5.4). It was 2 valves per cylinder and cast iron. Then, in '99 they went to 260 horsepower aluminum block but kept it at 2 v/c. Now they have the 3 v/c 5.4 that is a aluminum pushing 300 horsepower and what, 365 lb ft?

Anyway, it's in that ballpark. Same thing with the 4.6l. They had the 2 valves and now they even have a 3 valve in the F150. Both of them are base engines (beats me honestly)

LoL... My 2003 Landcruiser w/the 4.7L V8 had 365lb/ft Torque! - Really disappointing a 5.4L with the same torque specs!

Such a shame that 6.2 is only offered in the Raptor. Who wants an extended cab truck? Not me....

6.2L? Should be more power that that, but I'm sure it will be a strong motor.

That being said, I think my next truck will be a superduty unless Toyota will make an HD diesel .

Ford did an excellent job on the Superduty

The SD is a friggin' tank.

Our 4runner has the 4.7 and it is a hoss. I think the 5.4 is a "torque monster" though and it proved to be such in our Expedition.

According to this website, the '98 Expedition makes 230 hp at 4250 rpm and 325 lb ft at 3000 rpm. The 4runner of 2003 makes

Quote:
The powerful V8 produces 235 horsepower at 4,800 RPM and 320 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,400 RPM.
I'm not sure of the gears on the 4runner but the Expedition had 3.73s which were decent. The Fords just typically aren't rev happy motors, although some of the towing guys say the new 5.4 loves to be in the high RPMs.

The Gulf Spec Landcruiser with the 4.7L ran 245BHP and 365LB/FT torque... In the US the engine is tuned for more HP (275 - 245) while we got higher torque (365 -325)

Point is regardless which engine you compare Ford's 5.4 with, you have to agree that the difference is too minimal to cover for the difference in displacement.

Oh yeah, no doubt about it. I think everybody can agree with me on this statement - Ford's engines are a bit anemic (minus the diesel and the V10).

However, what people WON'T agree with me on is this.... these same engines will get the ob done, just a bit slower. They have been for years and years.

I found a website a few weeks ago that said all the power Ford engines made. In '79 they made like 200 horsepower out of a big block 400m lol.

I understand where you're coming from; i mean when i had the landcruiser, all i had were some breather mods on that 4.7 and it was up for whatever i put it through and excelled while doing it.. It wasn't until buying the Tundra that i felt on how much power i was missing out on in the LC.
I Believe at the end of the day; a V8 is a V8. Some manufacturers tend to produce better V8's than others - The rest lies on personal preference. WHich is why we drive the best
