Default Factory radio problem

Anyone have their factory radio lose all presets, no volume control (extremely loud), the fade/balance control knob doesn't work? This happened within like 12 hours, I came home from work Fri. night and the above happened Sat. afternoon. I'm going to the dealer tomorrow and see about getting it replaced but just curious if this has happened before.

Do a search on the radio I believe you will find a bunch, I have not had the issue.

It's happened quite a bit. So much so that last time I checked the radios were on a serious back-order.

Mine too. Shuts off by itself, controls stop working etc. Had it replaced once already under warranty and the replacement does the same stuff.

The rumor is....and this is just a rumor FWIW....that these radios were made for Toyota by none other than AC Delco.

Yea mine bounces on & off from time to time. If ya can't get it to restart by mashing the button just thump it real hard with your middle finger, works for me everytime.

On mine I had a cd stuck in it for a couple of days before it would eject it (wouldn't play it either), it was playing fine then just quit. Also I've had the volume knob quit working. After playing around with it I figured out it just needed to be pulled out so it will work again. Of course since the radio turns on and off by pushing the knob in this will be a repeating problem. I'll wait until it gets worse before going to the dealer though.

Tom.

Had mine replaced about 2 months ago for the above mentioned problems. Mine was the stock, single CD radio. They did the job in about 20 minutes...the Tech had done many, many before mine. He said it was a very common problem...said it was "Made in China".

So far, so good with the new radio.

Delco has a plant in China?

... that explains the radios not working... too much lead in them.

Yea before posting my question I did a search for broken radio and it pulled up 3 other topics but not the ones that were linked in a reply. Kk, going to the dealership today and see when they can get it in for replacement.

Radios made by Delphi in Mexico. I have not had a problem with mine. Do you have steering wheel control for the radio. could be the problem. Currently dealing with FORD radios and seeing alot of issues with the steering wheel control being over looked by the dealer.

I have the 6-disc, no steering wheel controls, and I am on my THIRD radio. If you are lucky enough to have never had a problem, there is a good chance you won't. However, all the replacement radio are refurbs. My first two radios would only act up every once and a while and I have already had a problem with my new one. My guess is that they receive these malfunctioning radios to refurbish and can't always figure out what the problem is so they replace some basic parts and send it on its way back to a dealership with the main issue unresolved. I have never had a hard time at Toyota with this issue. Pull in, say whats wrong, give them my name and number and they call me when they have to radio to put in without having to actually prove that there is anything wrong. (obvious give away that they have major issues) I talked to a man in the parts department and he said to upgrade from my 6-disc would cost me around $3-4000. NO THANKS.
