[QUOTE=Cards374;1296872]Looks great man. I have the same grille and love it!!!! To relocate the horns so they are less noticeable, just loosen the bolts that hold them on and turn them toward the side they are on. For example, looking at the front of the truck, the left horn, turn it towards the passenger side. Same for the right, drivers. Way less noticeable.
And if you haven't already, take the covers off of the horns, they will get louder and there is no mechanical reason to have them there. The only tool you need is your hand for that one. Enjoy. QUOTE]
I actually treid that and the driver's side worked great, but the passenger side had the transmission oil cooler in the way So i just said screw it and put them back to stock.
As far as the free "loud a$$ horn mod"....way ahead of ya

You have the Tow package then huh? That sucks, well for moving the horns anyway.
As for the loud horn mod, I just thought I would put that for people who didn't know.

Those covers protect the horns from rain, here in south tx it's not a big deal (driest 23 month period in recorded history),
But if it rains often you will run into problems later on down the road.

Actually, a member on another forum asked a service tech (take that for what it's worth) and he said that those covers were just a sound dampener, they were not for any protection purposes. Like I said though, take that for what it's worth. Some of those techies haven't a clue what they're talking about, unfortunately.

I had asked my L1 tech yesterday about it after reading this thread and that's what he said.
Why dampen a horn for any reason, they could go cheaper on the horn and not put a cover on to make up for the cheaper horns lack of DB thus saving money on both horn and cover.
Think about how much water comes into the grille when driving on a highway when it's raining.

You know I was thinking kind of the same thing thats why i left them on. I figure if Toyota went thru the cost and trouble to have those covers there must be a reason they have seen in thier development of cars and trucks. They probably know more about it than me since they have made millions of vehicles.

I have no idea, like I said, the tech he talked to might not of known what he was talking about.

Yeah I pretty much trust my guy with anything he says. Makes talking to national accounts to get authorization easier, when they question me I just say "this is what my L1 master tech is advising, do you want to ask him?" that generaly ends the discussion quickly.

Henry, yep figure those covers cost $0.25 a piece and another $0.02 to install, that adds up.
Yes it does, if those prices you mentioned are correct then on a production run of 100,000 Tundras the cost of the horn covers would be $27,000. Im sure Toyota knows this and then there must be a good reason for the covers.

Well not to nit pick but since there are two horns, the total should be $54,000......
so has anyone had the covers off for awhile in an inclement climate?
I've had mine off since before winter, not one problem yet. If they do go out, oh well, I don't use them that much anyway. And to answer "why dampen them?", because people complain way to much. If someone's horn was "too loud" for them, you know they would complain about it. Just like Why do they make the exhaust so quite? People, nowadays, like quite in everything. Doesn't matter what it is, if someone thinks something, no matter what it is, is too loud there will be complaints. That's just my opinion though.

You are correct sir. Guess I was thinking the poster who made the price estimate was talking for the whole job. But re reading it yes he said $0.25 apiece.
