so my jbl headunit started the famous "it only works if you tap (or hammer) the front panel, i removed the unit and found the plastic front piece was not properly snapped on to the metal head unit, there are connections for the lights and controls that only work if the two pieces are snapped together correctly. remove the front plastic panel from the head unit (after removal from the truck) and CAREFULLY replace the front panel making sure all of the plastic snaps all the way around the face plate are properly secured. (flawless operation in about 25 minutes)
