Default Tint....

Alright, I'm fixin to tint the windows, there's a tint that has some metalic flakes that reflects the heat better. Actually pretty impressive, they have a heat lamp and a sliding piece of glass, half with 3m the other half with the heat reflective tint. It's a pretty substantial difference. The problem is they said with my truck being black the glass may pop as it gets extremely hot vs regular tint and having a black veh makes it worse.

Anyone hear of this?

Thanks

I own a black double cab. If I were you, I'd just go with the regular premium tint they have out today (not the reflective kind). I'm not sure if they still use that crappy tint that turns purple over a year or 2, so make sure you don't get that cheap tint.

I had a factory tint of like 35% (someone correct me if I'm wrong) on the back windows and no tint on the front two windows when I first bought my truck. So I had the tint shop put 20/25% on the back windows ontop of the 35% and 15% on the front windows and on the "brow". I think it looks great. Here's what it looks like ---

(I think they look darker than they really are in these pictures. During the day, the front two windows you can see a silhouette of the people inside, and the back windows are pretty much blacked out.)

Did you get the tint done in the summer? Just wondering if you noticed a real difference in cab temp.

Thanks

Check out LLumar tint. If you can find an installer in your area, it looks to be very prime.

The cops here are freaky (and rightfully so) about tint. They really mess with you. This is why I have left mine alone. If they can't see in, they get nervous. I don't want a nervous cop with a gun standing just outside my window

Yea, dramatically, and I'm not exaggerating. It's easily 95-104 degrees here in Louisiana/Mississippi everyday and being a student, I drive a lot. When I get in it's a little stuffy, but once the A/c get going it gets cool and stays cool.

My friend who lives with me at school drives a Volvo car/leather interior with no tint. I dread riding anywhere with him because everything is scolding hot in his car and his A/c doesn't keep the car cool because the sun is constantly beaming into the car.

Yea, I'm pretty sure this is what I have. My tint cost around $230, and worth every penny.

I just had my tints done last Friday.

I too have a black Tundra, and after a month with no tint, I was getting tired of being burned up when I got in. I went with 35 on the fronts and 15 on the backs. Out the door an hour later for $140 and a lifetime warranty.

I originally wanted 20 all the way around, but the guy at the shop I had it done at talked me out of it. I live near the TN/NC border of VA, and spend most of the year at school in NC, so I went with 35 because it's legal in TN and NC...just not VA. If I would've gone darker up front they took cash only with no receipt.

I'm happy with tint, the temperature is noticeably cooler, and the truck looks a lot better.

I'll try to get pics tomorrow.

i have 5% all the way around. and i defiantly notice it is MUCH cooler in the summer compared to other vehicles in my home, especially with a heat index of over 100 degrees in louisiana. and i've had 5% for over a year, and yet no ticket. i've even got pulled over for speeding and rolled the window down in the cops face, nothing was done.

Yea, I have never had a problem with cops and my tint. When I get pulled over, I immediately roll my windows down and turn on my the cabin light (if it's night), and turn the engine off.

Up north there is less sun reason for tint so the police are all over anyone with it, the ones down south lost that battle a long time ago.

I'm thinking about 20 in the front (max in tx) and as dark as they offer in the rear. I'm going to add remote start to my alarm that I have as well as the all window down option so I can have the ac blowing out all the hot air out the windows before I get in.

A friend of mine had I think 50% done on his entire front windshield, he had a nice system in his vehicle and had the others pretty darn dark, you couldn't tell he tinted the front in the daytime but made it real hard at night to see inside through the front.
